The double-edged sword of most Oscar fashion campaigns is that the quirky and outrageous will inevitably give way to the sleek and elegant. In other words, quite often, a nominee’s choices get less interesting the closer they get to that Oscars red carpet. We’re seeing Best Actress nominee Cynthia Erivo meticulously tone down her own extra-ness and now we’re seeing Emilia Perez star and Best Supporting Actress nominee Zoe Saldana move away from the vaguely awkward styles she usually prefers and showing up at places like the Critics Choice Awards in frocks like this:
And while we’ll always argue for quirkiness and outrageousness and self-expression, we find that we can’t get mad at a classic gown in a dazzling color that looks amazing on its wearer. Love the choker. She might have been able to get away with a little more in the jewelry, but we don’t mind the low-key accessorizing.
