We don’t really like this look, but we’re going to put it up to our first vote of the new year. The Substance star Demi Moore has been having a banner career year, and like all smart and ambitious movie stars, she’s been using the time in the spotlight to project a certain sense of refreshment in her image. We’ve long felt she’d been stuck working a look that had gotten stale and that she’d aged out of, if only because she’d been working it for so long. There wasn’t much of a sense of adventure or evolution in her style. If anything, we felt it projected the opposite. But she’s loosened up a little in the last few months, allowing the pin straight hair she’d been sporting for two decades a little curl or wave here and there and getting away from the safe, simple, bias cut gowns she’d been stuck in for too long. Her look at the Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards offered more of the same:
And as we said, we don’t really like it. It’s great to see her in a pantsuit, which isn’t something she tends to favor, but that top is terrible. It overwhelms the whole look and does nothing to really enhance it. She’d have been better off with something less blindingly white and satiny and without that awful mock turtleneck. It’s nice to see a little wave to her hair, but we are going to have to restrict our commentary about the bow to a simple “We hate it” and leave it at that, lest we get yelled at. The shoes are almost impressively ugly to our eyes. Are we wrong? Are we being harsh? Let’s hear it:
