Guy Pearce Never Needed to Be a Movie Star
After roles in “Memento” and “L.A. Confidential” made him famous, Pearce turned his back on Hollywood. At age 57, he’s returned in “The Brutalist.”
A few years ago, as Guy Pearce filmed a television series in his native Australia, a young actress introduced herself by asking who his American agents were. She was determined to succeed in Hollywood, as she felt he had, and was eager to seek a shortcut.
Pearce was amused by her misplaced moxie. “The idea of rushing to Hollywood, I was in no rush whatsoever,” he said, adding, “I’m still not in any rush.”
“Shall I Tell You What I’ve Always Thought Of You?” Renée And Hugh Reunite For British Vogue’s February Issue
She’s back! For Renée Zellweger, reprising her career-defining role as Great British Everywoman Bridget Jones is a full-circle moment. But, reflects the double Oscar winner, a lot changes in 25 years. Who better, then, to unpick modern friendship, flirting and fashion with than her naughtiest friend and sauciest costar, Hugh Grant? Welcome back, Jones.
In the 30 years (next month) since Bridget entered the world in a cloud of Silk Cut, an inordinate amount has changed – when Fielding first created Bridget Jones, email barely existed, let alone Hinge, vapes and small plate restaurants. And while the tolerance of – often delight in – diet culture and casual misogyny that ran through the early material can make us wince today, so too do they serve as a reminder of what that time looked like for women. The constant that has remained? Our unwavering devotion to “Jones”, as her boss turned lover Daniel Cleaver – as played by Hugh Grant in the films – would call her (not unsexily).

This comes after she chose to step back from public life and working in the entertainment industry back in 2018, with her last major role being in 2014’s Annie, which she starred in alongside Foxx.
It’s based on the true story of wellness influencer falsely claiming she cured her own brain cancer, starring Kaitlyn Dever.

Monthly beauty maintenance for Black women is economically unfriendly and unrealistic — this is how I’ve rejected it
“I began to question not just the costs, but the emotional weight I had placed on it.”
One of my least favourite TikTok trends is the ‘Monthly Beauty Maintenance’ vlog, where Black women reveal the staggering costs of staying ‘put together.’ Watching these videos feels like peering into a past life, one where I too spent hundreds of pounds every two to six weeks maintaining an image that, I later realised, wasn’t truly mine. Living in London, where the cost of living is notoriously high, this level of upkeep wasn’t just a financial burden – it was exhausting. For many Black women, services like wigs, acrylic nails, lash extensions, eyebrow threading, tinting or lamination, waxes or laser, and salon visits (to maintain the natural hair under the wig) aren’t mere luxuries – they’re part of an identity that align with our societal expectations of ourselves and one another. I spent years adhering to this standard, pouring thousands of pounds into these routines to maintain an image that wasn’t authentically mine.
OK, if you’re going to wear make-up to the gym, this is the way to do it
Look and feel your best while working out
I rediscovered the joy of the gym last summer, and I have been going regularly ever since. It’s taken a while, but I have started to love hitting the treadmill and getting a sweat on, but sadly my complexion does not feel the same way. Post-workout, when I catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror, I always resemble a shiny squashed tomato, and my scarlet cheeks give off the wrong type of post-run glow.
I know I shouldn’t care about my red-faced woes but I really do, and I always live in fear that I might bump into someone I know after I’ve clocked up my steps. I fear that I’ll have to have a conversation while my cheeks burn a bold shade of crimson. Because of this, I find wearing a little make-up while I work out gives me a confidence boost, and although I’m still patchy and rosy underneath, a hint of base means my face looks far less angry when I leave the gym.
Is it ever okay to trash your ex in public?
Sometimes, it’s so tempting.
“When public figures open up about their breakups, it can make them more relatable, showing that they experience heartache and challenges just like anyone else,” she explains. “Sharing these stories can offer comfort to others, helping people to feel less alone in their own experiences. However, there’s a delicate line between sharing openly about personal challenges and doing so in a way that shifts blame, lacks accountability and may even be disrespectful to previous partners.”
Why Mark Zuckerberg is wrong about ‘masculine energy’ – according to a man who’s worked in an all-female office
Feminine energy should be celebrated in the workplace (and everywhere else).
Mark Zuckerberg, the founder and CEO of Meta, says workplaces need to embrace “masculine energy.”
Speaking on a podcast – the entire episode is three hours long (give us strength!) – Zuckerberg said the corporate world is “culturally neutered,” adding, “I think having a culture that celebrates the aggression a bit more has its own merits that are really positive.”
Before you boil over with anger, save it – because don’t worry, he continues: “It’s one thing to say we want to be kind of, like, welcoming and make a good environment for everyone… and I think it’s another to basically say that ‘masculinity is bad.’”
Before the Wedding, I Asked Myself: Am I Marrying for Love or for Social Media?
It was love at first sight. Not my love for my husband. That developed slowly over four years. I am talking about my wedding venue. The sea-facing lawn was unlike any location I had seen in Mumbai. The afternoon I visited for a recce, the sun dusted the Arabian Sea with gold and the grass shone an emerald green. “We need to start the ceremony early. It will photograph beautifully before the sun sets,” I gushed.
On the day, my husband walked into the mandap over an hour late. His kind (read: inconsiderate) groomsmen had stolen the keys to the buggy he was meant to arrive in. When our pheras finally began, an inky sky had wiped out my dream of an Instagram-perfect wedding. This could have been the beginning of our post-wedding we-never-got-good-photos quarrel, but deep inner work saved me from falling into that dark vortex of external validation fuelled by social media.
The Viral ‘Bride Who Washed Off Her Wedding Makeup’ Drama, Explained
A story between a bride and her makeup artist has led to an intense debate online about MUA ethics.
Arbitrators of ethics on the internet: We have another case on our hands. This time, it’s a debate over TikTok wedding makeup drama.
Those few words together (weddings, makeup, TikTok) are bound to get people heated and chattering away. But at the heart of the debate is a simple question: Is it rude to wash off your professionally applied makeup? And if you hate a MUA’s work, how do you tell them?
This all started with a woman named Lauren, who posted a video last week from her wedding day. In it, Lauren films herself in front of a sink, puffy headband on, scrubbing her face.

Dim Sum Is a Way of Life in Cantonese Culture — Here’s Where to Try It in Hong Kong
Immerse in Hong Kong culture at these dim sum restaurants, classes, and experiences.
At Michelin-starred Cantonese restaurant Spring Moon, an institution since 1986 housed within The Peninsula Hong Kong, one of the elegant dishes during a tour de force lunch may be a pan-fried cod fish served with quinoa, alongside a stylized goldfish-shaped dumpling stuffed with minced shrimp. Perhaps inspired by the incredible Instagram-worthy dish, some diners may then opt to get hands-on in the kitchen, learning about the intricacies of creating the cuisine by enrolling in the hotel’s Dim Sum Making Class, a tutorial offered in conjunction with chef Lam Yuk Ming and his crack dim sum squad.
It’s harder than it seems, of course, and your sad, droopy-eyed goldfish may prove to be a poor imposter of the real thing. But it makes the restaurant’s fanciful creation, served to hundreds of diners per day, all the more memorable.
Top Hollywood Stylists Are Helping Fire Victims Rebuild Their Wardrobes
A-list style mavens have rallied to offer fashion solutions for hundreds of families displaced by the fires.
Last Friday, stylists-to-the-stars Elizabeth Stewart and Jordan Grossman — who founded the non-profit Chic Relief during the pandemic — were packing pieces for five personal friends who lost their homes in the fires. The idea was to help them rebuild their closets after they’d lost everything. “And we thought, ‘You know what? We think we can do this for a lot more people!’” says Stewart.
In the days since, Stewart and Grossman have launched an ambitious effort to clothe and assist hundreds of families who lost everything in the Los Angeles fires. They’re not alone. A growing network of stylists, celebrities, Hollywood executives and creatives have joined in (or are working on their own) to extend the reach of relief efforts.
Caring For My Daughter’s Curls Healed My Childhood Hair Trauma
I’m giving her the freedom and affirmation I didn’t have.
My negative perception of my natural hair started with that first silk press. It only got worse in high school when I moved from a predominantly Black neighborhood in North Philadelphia to Voorhees, New Jersey, a predominantly white area with just a handful of Black, LatinX, and South Asian students at my school. It didn’t help that the starlets of the day all preferred straight styles: Alicia Keys with twists in the front, straight sleek hair in the back; Beyoncé and Brandy with the notorious micro braids. There was not a curly hairstyle in sight—neither on-screen nor IRL. All the influences around me pointed to the idea that my natural hair was not good enough. So, I either wanted my hair straight or in a protective style, never out in its natural, curly state. At the time, I didn’t think of it as trauma—I just thought of it as making my hair pretty.
Macy’s Is Closing 150 Stores Across the Country by 2026
The department store chain announced that 66 locations will be shutting down by the end of this year alone.
More Macy’s stores are continuing to close their doors for good.
As announced last year, Macy’s department stores across the United States have been closing as part of a wider plan to shut down 150 locations through 2026. Last year, Macy’s shuttered 50 locations. In 2025, the company is planning to close 66 stores in total.
Macy’s previously described the stores set to be shuttered as “underproductive locations.” In a statement from early last year, the department store chain said it was shifting its focus to what the company is calling A Bold New Chapter strategy that will focus on investing in the remaining 350 locations. The plan also includes opening new Bloomingdale’s locations and Bluemercury stores, which are Macy’s luxury brands.
And Just Like That, Carrie Bradshaw’s Front Stoop Was Closed
A West Village homeowner was granted permission to build a gate on her house in an effort to stop overeager ‘Sex and the City’ fans from trespassing.
The New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission on Tuesday approved an application by a Manhattan homeowner to build a gate at the front of what she called her “celebrity staircase.”
The staircase sits in front of 66 Perry Street, a brownstone in the West Village that was built in 1866 but gained its celebrity status more than a century later, when it became the exterior setting for Carrie Bradshaw’s apartment on the HBO show “Sex and the City.”
Barbara Lorber became emotional as she explained to the panel of commissioners the need to erect a gate that would protect her building and its tenants from a constant stream of fans who come to hang out on the steps and take photos.

7 Ceiling Paint Colors You’ll Regret, According to Interior Designers
These colors will create a sense of chaos and claustrophobia.
Who says ceilings have to blend into the background? Painting them is a new frontier in design, turning what was once overlooked into a real style statement. Moreover, a thoughtfully selected ceiling color can add depth, enhance natural light, and perfectly complement the textures and materials in your space.
However, much like choosing a hue for your walls, selecting the right paint color for your ceiling requires careful thought. The wrong pigment can make a space feel smaller, clash with the surrounding elements, or throw off the room’s balance. The secret is to find a shade that elevates your space, without overpowering it. To help you get started, we asked interior designers to share their advice on which ceiling colors to skip entirely.

This Lesser-known National Park Feels ‘Extraterrestrial’ With Bone-white Sand Dunes and Sky-blue Lagoons — Here’s What It Was Like to Visit
In the northern reaches of Brazil, the unique and fragile landscapes of the Lençóis reward the adventurous.
Like most anyone who lives in the oases at the heart of Brazil’s Lençóis Maranhenses National Park, a sprawling field of bone-white sand dunes and cerulean lagoons, Cassio José França Souza can identify his friends and family by their footprints. Souza, who grew up in the riverside fishing village of Santo Amaro do Maranhão, just outside the park, leaves singular tracks in the talcum-soft sand, with big toes that hang off the front of his sandals. His wife’s prints, he told me with an affectionate grin, one dazzling morning in June, are “small and round.”
