While big sis Dakota finally followed our advice and stepped outside her comfort zone (and was all the better for it), A Complete Unknown star Elle Fanning hit the Golden Globes red indulging in her favorite style elements: mid-Century couture and neutrals.
And we have to admit, despite our longstanding haranguing of all Fannings to get away from pale neutrals, this is mostly working for her. The design is inspired by an archival piece from the Fall 1953 Balmain couture collection. Yes, this would be so much better for her in black or even brown (we’ve evolved), but it’s such a lovely design and she’s so well-suited to it (color issue aside), plus it’s obvious that she’s loving it. The styling is on point and somehow, of the major retro-inspired looks of the evening, this one strikes us as the least costume-y, possibly because she has so much experience working mid-century couture styles.
