Bogart in the Eye of the Beholder
A new documentary by Universal Pictures Content Group tells Humphrey Bogart’s life story through the five most important women in his life

Helmed as the greatest male actor of American cinema and Hollywood’s golden age, the late Humphrey Bogart’s life story is being explored in a new documentary by Universal Pictures Content Group, backed by the Bogart estate.
Titled Bogart: Life Comes in Flashes, filmmaker Kathryn Ferguson and Bogie’s own son Stephen Humphrey Bogart come together to bring a new perspective and recounting of his life through his relationships with the five important women in his life—his mother and past four wives. “On screen, he was most famous as rugged individualistic, and a loner, but off-screen, he spent the majority of his adult life married,” explains Ferguson to V, as seen inside the pages of our V150 issue. “Bogart’s private life was extraordinarily eventful, arguably more so than many of his cinematic characters.”

Sophie Thatcher Is All the Rage: On Heretic, Yellowjackets, and Making Art Out of a Broken Heart
Thatcher has become accustomed to playing women on the brink: “I feel so much anger with the state of the world right now, so it’s nice to be able to release and stand up for yourself.”

In her early 20s, Sophie Thatcher spent every birthday screaming, sobbing, or singing. She turned 22 while hoisting a fake moose carcass across a frozen lake on season two of Showtime’s Yellowjackets. On her 23rd birthday, she delivered an impassioned monologue to Hugh Grant on the set of A24’s Heretic, now in theaters. Thatcher celebrated her 24th earlier this year surrounded by friends at a karaoke bar, belting out her go-to track, the Carpenters’ “Close to You.”
“I did karaoke last night. Swear to God, it is my favorite thing. As soon as you meet me, you just learn that,” Thatcher tells Vanity Fair between sips of a La Croix from her home in Nichols Canyon, Los Angeles. “I’m really trying to spice it up, ’cause I can see people getting sick of me singing [‘Close to You’]. But I sound great because I’ve worked so hard on it.”

Wednesday season 2: Lady Gaga just joined the already-epic cast
Filming has kicked off in Ireland.

Wednesday spoilers ahead!
Wednesday was the breakout show of 2022. And for excellent reason, with the ‘all together ooky’ levels of spookiness catered to all scare levels, while the sombre fashion choices had us seriously lusting – all with the fabulous Jenna Ortega expertly fitting into the popular cult titular role with her dead-pan mannerism while attending Nevermore Academy, a boarding school for supernaturally gifted students.
Now, a year and a half after season one, season two is officially in production with filming commencing in Ireland, and the full cast list announced — including a very unexpected superstar. Yes, little monsters, Lady Gaga is officially going to be featured in season two of the show, per Entertainment Weekly. We don’t know who she’ll be playing yet, but her casting just makes sense. After all, thanks to TikTok and that “Bloody Mary” trend, Gaga and Wednesday are intrinsically linked in our minds. Surely, surely, Gaga will be doing the famous “Bloody Mary” dance at some point in the show?? (We all remember this mash-up, right?)

The Wicked movie’s hair and makeup designers spill on how Cynthia and Ariana made their characters their own
More than 30 wigs, custom green body makeup, and hours in the makeup chair brought Elphaba and Glinda to the big screen.

Before Cynthia Erivo even began rehearsals as Elphaba for the onscreen adaptation of Wicked, Frances Hannon started collecting green makeup. Lots of it.
As the film’s lead makeup designer, Hannon wanted to get ahead of the most important task at hand: transforming Cynthia into the Wicked Witch of the West. Cynthia was in America during the early stages of planning, but over in London, where filming would take place, Hannon was well underway with researching and developing Elphaba’s look – particularly her striking green skin.
After a period of “trawling products around streets and shops” and plenty of research, Hannon began creating custom green body makeup with special effects makeup manufacturer David Stoneman.

Sustainable fashion is more important than ever – here’s why you need to pay attention
There’s no time to wait.

What exactly is sustainable fashion? There’s no denying that the concept of ‘sustainability’ is inherently at odds with the traditional world of fashion, but where an appetite for the latter continues to rise alongside awareness and insistence on the former… a tricky balance must be found.
An industry that makes a living by providing its fans with the very newest trends that haven’t been seen before is surely one of the most unsustainable imaginable. Unfortunately, that’s exactly the way it’s been for several decades.
Widely reported to be the world’s second most polluting industry after oil, the very nature of fashion’s quick trend turnover renders it so damaging that it has become one of the most environmentally crippling industries on the planet. And, according to a recent report, it’s only getting worse, with the textile industry emitting more greenhouse gas emissions than international shipping and aviation combined.

The climate crisis impacts everyone, but women and girls are bearing the brunt of it.

Maisie Williams Might Be Returning To The World Of ‘Game Of Thrones’
The actor may reprise her role as Arya Stark.

The majority of Maisie Williams’ acting career and teenage years were spent on the set of HBO’s Game Of Thrones as Arya Star, one of the show’s most central characters. The 27-year-old actor appeared in every season and quickly became a fan favourite for her character’s love for adventure and rejection of typical gender roles.
Now, thanks to a teaser from George R. R. Martin, the writer of the book series A Song Of Ice And Fire which inspired the Game Of Thrones TV programme, has hinted at the fact that the actor may return to the world of Westeros for a new project.

From ‘Cat Eye’ To Cabernet, Meet The Latest Winter Nail Ideas For Your Next Manicure
It’s time for the seasonal switch-up.

‘Heavily influenced by Gen-Z and millennials, Y2K is trending and hot metals will continue to thrive in the world of nails,’ says Metta Francis, an award-winning London-based manicurist and founder of Nails by Mets. ‘Last year we saw silver have its moment and for 2024, this will continue but with exaggerated looks. Think art on nails – 3D hot metals, jelly like chromes, textured metals all in metallic hues,’ she says. Francis notes that bows are set to take over more than just our hairstyles this winter, too. ‘Bow nails are currently one of the most searched nail art trends and we’ll continue to see kitsch 3D nail charms and hand painted 2D bows this winter season. They’re nostalgic and reminiscent of Japanese kawaii looks which act as a fun rebellion against the “your nails but better” trends of last year,’ she says.

Sydney Sweeney on Euphoria, Her Rise as a Producer, and Misconceptions: “I Don’t Get to Control My Image”
While waiting to shoot season three of HBO’s drama, she produced the smash Anyone but You, and dove into some intense roles.

Asked what the biggest misconception is about her, Sydney Sweeney laughs. “Oh, I don’t know. There’s so many out there. That would take the whole article, man.”
During her Saturday Night Live monologue in the spring, she poked fun at the box office failure of her superhero movie Madame Web, the controversy surrounding her mother’s supposedly MAGA-themed 60th birthday party, and even rumors that she and Anyone but You costar Glen Powell had an affair. “Hopefully people realize how silly all the headlines are because, I mean, you know how this works,” she says from North Carolina, where she’s filming a biopic about renowned boxer Christy Martin. “We’re going to have a conversation, we’ll talk for 30 minutes, it’s condensed, then people don’t understand the context behind the conversation, and it’s all clickbait. Unfortunately I don’t get to control my image—my image is in your guys’ hands.”

Gwen Stefani Is Ready for What’s Next
“I’ve been waiting and wanting to, but it’s just not that easy.” Gwen Stefani is talking to me about making new music: Aside from a holiday offering, You Make It Feel Like Christmas, in 2017, Stefani hasn’t debuted a full album in nearly a decade. All that time has cloaked Bouquet—her new record, out today—in a lot of mystery, and more than a little anticipation. “That makes me scared when you say it like that,” she says. In many ways, she’s just as excited and curious about this next chapter in her career as her fans are. “I feel so good to finally have a record that reflects the truth of who I am right this second.”
That truth involved a lot of healing, a major theme of her new music. Stefani has been through it since her last pop release—notably titled This Is What the Truth Feels Like—came out in 2016, ending her 13-year marriage to musician Gavin Rossdale, with whom she shares three sons, and beginning a very public romance with country star Blake Shelton, one of her fellow judges on NBC’s popular music-competition show The Voice. She and Shelton then married in Oklahoma in 2021.

Welcome to the Room Spray Renaissance
In case you missed it, air fresheners—and the entire category of home fragrances, for that matter—have undergone a major rebrand. Gone are the days of a quick Febreze spritz before a dinner party, and the luxury candle’s time in the limelight might be coming to a close. But somewhere in the middle sits the room spray, the mist-able yet chic home fragrance option that seems to be having a moment of its own. In recent years, designer names in the fragrance space, like Trudon and Loewe, have decided to add what is essentially an interior perfume to their list of offerings, and younger brands are incorporating room deodorants in their core lineup.

Why the Internet’s Favorite Seasoning Salt Should Be in Your Pantry
It’s time to learn about Herbamare.

Making quick meals that are still super flavorful is all about having the right powerhouse ingredients in your arsenal. Whether it’s adding a splash of soy sauce, sprinkle of chili flakes, or drizzle of vinegar, leveraging pantry staples can make a bland dinner infinitely better in seconds. And it’s time to meet a new one.
Herbamare is a seasoning salt that I first came across on social media. On both TikTok and Instagram, a few of the food influencers I follow have been using it on everything — the signature green can it comes in, which looks similar to the containers of kosher salt you might buy, is hard to miss. I’ve noticed that the product seems to be particularly popular among Canadian, European, and Australian influencers, so consider this my effort to popularize it in the United States.

How Do Hops Affect Beer? A Guide to Popular Varieties and Their Flavors
Hops are the key ingredient that turn beer into beer. If you want to be an expert, here’s what you need to know.

Hops have fueled the modern beer renaissance. After Prohibition all but destroyed the brewing industry in the U.S., American light lager dominated shelves and taps following its repeal. Variations of the crisp, but not at all hoppy, beer were essentially the only available style in the country for decades.
Lagers remain wildly popular. But in the early 1980s, a handful of pioneers sought to broaden the market and embraced ales with a hop-forward nature. This spawned an era of unbridled creativity, a renewed interest in hop growing, and new methods in brewing.

Is John Krasinski really 2024’s sexiest man alive?
The People magazine honor raises some questions.

…in a pop culture landscape practically infested with “internet boyfriends,” Krasinski was a baffling choice. Amid look-alike competitions being held for Hollywood’s hottest young men across the United States and Europe — your Timmy Chalamets, your Paul Mescals — the lack of excitement around this issue has never felt so loud. What does it even mean to be People’s sexiest man alive in 2024, if it means anything at all? And why are we still so invested?
For readers who witnessed Patrick Dempsey receive this honor just last year, it must be pointed out that the “Sexiest Man Alive” issue didn’t always feel this arbitrary and untimely.

The 25 Most Influential Cookbooks From the Last 100 Years
Chefs, writers, editors and a bookseller gathered to debate — and decide — which titles have most changed the way we cook and eat.

Despite its millions of recipes, the internet hasn’t killed cookbooks. Instead, the genre’s fans seem more motivated than ever to collect and use them — and not just for making dinner. For some, they’re bedside reading. For others, they’re design objects. A cookbook can be a work of cultural anthropology, a historical record, an instruction manual and a vehicle for armchair travel. But what makes a cookbook great? In trying to compile T’s list of the 25 most essential examples written in English over the past 100 years, we prioritized influence — how has a book affected the way we eat, cook, think, talk, photograph and write about food?

36 Hours in Atlanta
If Savannah, Charleston or New Orleans ever boasts of exuding more Southern charm per square inch, Atlanta might well respond, “Bless their hearts.” The de facto capital of the American South moves with too much muscle and speed to be bothered by such quaint notions, secure in its position as a nexus of civil rights history, capitalist hustle, Black creativity, and (thanks to generous state tax credits) TV and film production. Beyond the traffic-choked highways, Atlanta’s older, more central neighborhoods actually offer abundant charm, thrumming with dining, nightlife and art. A key catalyst has been the Atlanta Beltline, the partly constructed 22-mile walking and biking path that has connected old parts of town in fresh ways, spurring revitalization and giving locals and visitors alike a place to enjoy the city outside their cars.

Lala exclusively tells EW he went “through a depression” over his drag identity on “All Stars” — but assures that The Lala Ri Experience will continue in a different way.

RuPaul’s Drag Race season 13 and All Stars 8 contestant Lala Ri exclusively reveals to Entertainment Weekly that he — yes, Lala’s correct pronouns are he/him, by the way — is done with performing as a drag queen. Eddie Redmayne has ‘spent a lot of time ruminating’ after taking on ‘problematic’ roles
“I was upset by the backlash when it was announced, but I had faith in my own take,” Redmayne said of his divisive work in “Cabaret” on the West End and Broadway.

Eddie Redmayne has heard all those criticisms of his controversial performances. The Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them actor reflected on his divisive turns in some projects in an interview with Penn Badgely on his podcast Podcrushed.
In September, Redmayne finished his run on Broadway as the Emcee, a frequently queer-coded character in the revival of Cabaret, and in 2015 drama The Danish Girl, he played a trans woman, a role that gave him his second Oscar nomination.

This Under-the-radar Island Was Just Named the Best Beach Destination in Europe
It’s time to put Porto Santo on your radar.

Madeira, Portugal, is best known for its namesake wine, cable cars, and lush scenery. And while most people hunker down on the archipelago’s eponymous largest island, there are hidden treasures to uncover nearby. Situated about 26 miles northeast of Madeira is the small island of Porto Santo, which very much flies under most visitors’ radars.
However, it’s not completely unknown. With sandy beaches on par with those found in Turks and Caicos and Thailand, it was only a matter of time before word got out. In what will come as no surprise to anyone who has visited (or seen unfiltered photos on Instagram), Porto Santo Island was just named Europe’s leading beach destination in the 2024 World Travel Awards. The sunny speck in the North Atlantic Ocean beat Portugal’s popular southern coast, the Algarve, which has clinched the title on 10 separate, previous occasions.

What to Know About Traveling to Rome in 2025, When Millions Are Expected to Visit for the Jubilee
From construction, to crowds, and an increased tourist tax, locals share what travelers should know ahead of the Jubilee next year.

Rome is readying itself for a Jubilee, one of Catholicism’s most infrequent celebrations.
Also referred to as a Holy Year, the Jubilee draws visitors from all over the world with the influx of believers — on top of other tourists — expected to hit 35 million in 2025, according to Italy’s National Tourist Research Institute (ISNART). When compared to the 13 million that visited in 2023, it’s clear Rome is in for some serious crowds next year.

Jubilees — where traditionally, Catholics come to ask for forgiveness — have been held at varying intervals since the year 1300. The interval settled at every 25 years in 1470, although Popes can declare Jubilees outside of that timeframe. Those who visit certain holy sites and participate in a rite of reconciliation are granted a plenary indulgence, which forgives all sins.
