Teri Garr, Star of ‘Young Frankenstein’ and ‘Tootsie,’ Dies at 79
Teri Garr, the comic actress and singer who brought her buoyant personality to “Young Frankenstein” and was Oscar-nominated for “Tootsie,” died on Tuesday in Los Angeles after a long battle with multiple sclerosis. She was 79.
An influential performer to comedians including Tina Fey, Garr was a familiar face in dozens of TV shows and films of the 1970s, ’80s and ’90s. The actress revealed in 2002 that she had been diagnosed with MS, and she suffered an aneurysm in 2006.
Teri Garr, Comic Actress in Offbeat Roles, Is Dead at 79
An Oscar nominee for her role in “Tootsie,” she was also a favorite guest of David Letterman and Johnny Carson and a three-time host of “Saturday Night Live.”
Teri Garr, the alternately shy and sassy blond actress whose little-girl voice, deadpan comic timing, expressive eyes and cinematic bravery in the face of seemingly crazy male characters made her a star of 1970s and ’80s movies and earned her an Oscar nomination for her role in “Tootsie,” died on Tuesday at her home in Los Angeles. She was 79. Her publicist, Heidi Schaeffer, said the cause was complications of multiple sclerosis.
Saoirse Ronan Just Wants to Play a Bond Villain
The four-time Oscar nominee learned to deliver lambs and sing in front of a crowd for The Outrun and Blitz—but next, she’s dreaming of playing a big baddie.
The projects couldn’t be more different, but they each show Ronan’s ability to bring vulnerability to all her characters—and to try new things with each role. For The Outrun, which Ronan also produced, she learned how to deliver lambs—aka “lambing”—an experience she describes as terrifying but miraculous. “It was really beautiful,” she tells Little Gold Men, “and I think more than anything else, it just kind of reminded me of that cyclical nature of the animal world, human world—birth, life—how kind of clinical it can be, and at the same time really beautiful and spiritual and heartwarming.” In Blitz, meanwhile, Ronan performs an original song after her character is recruited to sing something inspiring over the radio.
Shawn Mendes Is Still ‘Figuring Out’ His Sexuality. Let’s Give Him—and Others Like Him—Some Grace
Sadly, Mendes isn’t the only celebrity who’s felt pressure to define his sexuality for the public of late. When Billie Eilish came out as queer in 2023, she wasn’t thrilled with the fervor that surrounded her announcement, later telling Vogue: “I wish no one knew anything about my sexuality or anything about my dating life. Ever, ever, ever.” Really, should being honest with the world about who you are and who you love automatically entitle everyone to every single detail about who you’re dating or how you identify?
Lucas Bravo on Returning to Emily in Paris for Season 5: ‘It Will Depend on the Script’
“I don’t want to be part of a machine that tends to disregard the intelligence of its audience.”
It seems even Gabriel himself is a little tired of Gabriel and Emily’s roller-coaster plotline on Emily in Paris. Lucas Bravo, the actor who plays Gabriel on the show, told French outlet Le Figaro in an interview—translated by Glamour—that he may not return to the Netflix series for season five, basically because he finds the writing a bit stale.
Acknowledging that being on the series has opened many doors for him in his career, Bravo said that Emily in Paris doesn’t give him the kind of freedom he’s gotten from other projects, which he’s now gotten a taste for. “Life is short,” Bravo said. “The filming of this series lasts five months. Do I want to sacrifice them to do something that doesn’t excite me?”
‘I’m A Millennial And The Best Thing About “Rivals” Is That It Shows Love In A Time Pre-Dating Apps’
Disney+’s adaptation of Dame Jilly Cooper’s 1988 novel ‘Rivals’ has got everybody talking.
Rivals is set in the fictional county of Rutshire in the Cotswolds in 1986, a year when Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher was in power, an era when the hair, eyeshadow and shoulder pads were bigger, bolder and more brash than ever. It tells the story of the rivalry between the devilishly handsome and sexually vivacious Rupert Campbell-Black (Alex Hassell), a monied MP and former-Olympian, and his neighbour Lord Tony Baddingham (David Tennant), the controller of commercial television station, Corinium. Woven into the rich tapestry of the series are the hallmarks of Cooper’s experience of the Cotswolds during the 1980s; horses, dogs, booze and bonking. Rivals perfectly encapsulates the spirit of hope, hedonism and — albeit potentially misplaced — optimism of the 1980s.
Denim, but make it fashion—embellished jeans are the cool girl solution to party dressing
The easy way to elevate your look
The appetite for embellishments is ongoing. From studded accessories to bedazzled ready-to-wear pieces, it’s safe to say that this maximalist trend isn’t going anywhere this autumn/winter 2024. The latest piece to get a dazzling makeover? Denim.
Yes, the humble jeans have been upgraded for autumn. Embellished jeans started cropping up on the runways across Paris and Milan Fashion Week, with brands like Versace, Stella McCartney and Ami styling their variations with oversized blazers, sheer cami vests, and heels—the perfect party-dressing look in my eyes.
Classic beauty products don’t get much airtime in 2024—trust me as a beauty editor, these 15 are still the best
They’re unbeatable.
In the world of beauty, new launches are a dime a dozen. And look, for a lover of beauty (even one who’s been in the industry as long as I have) this is always exciting, but sometimes you can’t beat a classic. They may not feel as ‘sexy,’ but classic beauty products that stand the test of time will always be cool. I’m talking the Clinique Black Honeys of the world, or the original ghds. The likes of Chanel No 5 and Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream are icons that will be bestsellers for ever—and for good reason.
With this in mind, I’ve gotten all nostalgic and hand selected the best 15 timeless beauty products in existence. I truly believe in the efficacy of these products and think they can never really be ‘duped’ or replaced. Prepare to stock up!
I’m a complete novice when it comes to nails—but this product has convinced me to ditch the salon entirely
It’s a known fact among my friends that I am not the girl to turn to for at-home beauty treatments. If there’s the opportunity to enlist a professional for any service, whether that’s a nail treatment to try out the latest nail trends, lash extensions or simply make-up for a special event, I will always book the appointment rather than even attempt to give it a go myself. Part of the reasoning behind this is because I love the salon experience, however there’s another part of me that has to admit, it’s because I’m rarely very good at them. Painting my own nails at home? Count me out. You know those TikTok’s where someone attempts to cut their own hair and it goes wrong? Been there, done that, learnt my lesson.
Bonfire blonde is proving the ultimate hair colour trend for autumn—and these looks have me sold
It’s rich, warm and oh-so seasonal—trust me, all the cool girls are wearing it
I’m a sucker for an autumn hair trend—right now is my favourite time of year. In fact, I think all the best things happen around this time—including, of course, great hair. I have been obsessed with all of the best autumn hair colours, autumn haircuts in recent weeks, and for me, as someone who is actively trying to go a little more natural with my blonde and steer clear of icy bleach, the latest colour trend has caught my eye for all the right reasons. Introducing, bonfire blonde.
It is more wearable and lower maintenance than the dream girl blonde of last season and offers a warmer tone for these chillier months. Beyond that, I’ve seen a ton of people opting for this currently under-the-radar trend of late. So what exactly is bonfire blonde hair, and how do you best wear it? Here’s what to know.

From Almond Nails To Squoval, Your Guide To Every Nail Shape
How to decipher the nail shape for you, according to the experts.
No, it’s not as thrilling as deciding between a lick of shiny polish or daring nail art, trawling through Instagram to take your pick of wild neon talons, French tips and chrome nails – but your nail shape matters, and it’s a key consideration for your manicure in general.
You can completely change the aesthetic of a simple nude nail via the IG-approved almond shape, or level up the drama with extra-long coffin nails. ‘Choosing the right nail shape is key to maximising the impact of your polish or nail art,’ agrees Juanita Huber-Millet, Founder and Chief Creative Officer at Townhouse. ‘The shape sets the foundation, enhancing the overall look of your hands and ensuring that designs complement your personal style.’
Why You Should Eat Fermented Foods Every Day
You’ve probably already heard plenty about the health benefits of fermented foods like kimchi and yoghurt. But many of us eat other fermented foods every day without even realising we are doing it. For example, coffee, soy sauce, chocolate and red wine are all technically fermented foods.
Don’t take this as a green light to guzzle all the coffee and red wine you can, though, unfortunately it’s not that simple. There are actually two types of fermented foods: those that are fermented to improve flavour, and those that contain active probiotic cultures.
Kate Middleton Sent a Personal Letter to a Bollywood Actor Who Survived a Cancer Diagnosis
Manisha Koirala revealed that the princess sent her a letter congratulating on her work advocating for survivors of ovarian cancer.
After Kate Middleton announced her diagnosis with an unspecified form of cancer in March, she reportedly received tens of thousands of letters from well-wishers around the world and set about responding to as many as she could. According to a report in The Asian Standard, one of those responses went to Bollywood actress Manisha Koirala, who has been open about her own 2012 treatment for stage IV ovarian cancer.
Koirala, who recently starred in the Hindi-language Netflix period drama Heeramandi, described her motivations for reaching out to the Princess of Wales in a statement. “I wanted to reach out to HRH The Princess of Wales to send my good wishes, particularly due to my own experiences,” she said, per the outlet. “I am deeply heartened to receive such a warm response from her and wish her the very best of health.”
Mariska Hargitay is a Real-Life Olivia Benson
On TV she’s beloved as a relentless, hard-nosed, take-no-prisoners crusader for justice. Turns out her real life work on behalf of abuse survivors is a case of life imitating art with astounding results.
In January Hargitay turned 60 and took stock of several milestones: a landmark birthday, 25 seasons of SVU, and the twinned 20th anniversaries of her partnership and the foundation. Just before Labor Day she dropped off her elder son, August, at college. (Her daughter Amaya and son Andrew remain at home.)
There are women who would see this capstone season as a chance to bask in their achievements. Hargitay has instead spent it looking ahead. In her dressing room she maps out Joyful Heart’s most recent efforts. The foundation announced grants in its new Heal the Healers initiative, which supports professionals who work with survivors and are grappling with their own experiences of vicarious trauma.

The Hottest Ghosts to Ever Haunt Our Screens
There’s no shame in having a supernatural crush.
There’s something undeniably alluring about something just out of reach. Something that’s a little too expensive, someone who has one too many red flags—or somebody who’s crossed over.
Blame it on Devon Sawa in Casper or Gerard Butler’s ghostly, yet rugged, good looks in P.S. I Love You: There’s no shame in having a little bit of a supernatural crush. Throughout history, ghosts have been portrayed as charismatic and charming, from the stories of Edgar Allen Poe to the Brontë sisters’ iconic novels—it’s no coincidence both Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre are haunted. In short, we’ve been blessed with portrayals of seductive spirits for centuries.
The tradition continues, with heartthrobs playing not-so-scary ghosts in movies and on TV. With Halloween creeping up the calendar and plenty of opportunities to stream now that cozy season is here, there’s no better time to look back at the sexiest, steamiest ghosts (and ghost-adjacent characters) to grace our screens.
HelloFresh Is Re-Creating a Famous ‘Friends’ Episode With 2 Thanksgiving Treats
And no, it doesn’t “taste like feet.”
If you’ve ever dreamed of recreating one of the most infamous Thanksgiving dishes in TV history, you’re in luck. HelloFresh has teamed up with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products to bring fans of Friends a special, limited-edition treat: Rachel Green’s Trifle meal kit. And yes, it’s exactly what you think it is — a mashup of Shepherd’s pie and classic English trifle, just like in that memorable season six episode.
The kit, which drops just in time for Thanksgiving this year, comes packed with everything you need to re-live that culinary catastrophe. But there’s a twist — this time, HelloFresh has designed a custom trifle dish with a divider. So, you can keep the savory shepherd’s pie layers separate from the sweet custard and jam, or go full Joey and mix it all together in a terrifyingly delicious bite.
It’s Time to Fall in Love With Decaf, According to These Specialty Coffee Experts
From seed to cup, the quality of decaf coffee has only gotten better.
Decaf has become a punchline over the years. As the third-wave coffee movement grew and coffee consumers became more sophisticated, laughing at decaf’s expense became a cultural pastime. Recently, Lauren Bacall’s campy 1980s-era High Point decaf coffee commercials have made the rounds on TikTok, which inspired a parody on SNL.
Where did decaf get its bad rap? Stale, pre-ground decaf can indeed make a lackluster cup. Options offered at restaurants are often not ideal. These disappointing cups have fueled the “death before decaf” cabal. Diner mugs, oversized T-shirts, bumper stickers, and trucker hats display this and other anti-decaf sentiments.
Teri Garr Found the Soul in Memorable Ditsy Blondes
In “Tootsie,” “After Hours” and other films, she played truly unhinged characters while also layering in sadness or drama.
Garr came from a show business family — her father was a vaudevillian, and she arguably inherited that can-do spirit of performing. Though she had appeared in a number of television shows and films throughout the 1960s, including as a dancer in multiple Elvis flicks, she was introduced to most audiences in Mel Brooks’s “Young Frankenstein” (1974, not currently streaming), playing Inga, the laboratory assistant to Gene Wilder’s Frederick Frankenstein. (Don’t mispronounce it.)

This 23-square-mile Country Within a Country Is the Oldest in Europe — and It’s Not Vatican City
Here’s why Italy’s other country within a country, San Marino, is worth the detour.
With its 61 square kilometers (just over 23 square miles) wedged between the Emilia Romagna and Marche regions of northeastern Italy, San Marino has existed as an organized settlement since at least the beginning of the fourth century and was likely inhabited much earlier. It’s currently home to about 35,000 residents. “San Marino’s picturesque hilltop capital city and surrounding towns have defied all odds to remain independent while being surrounded by Italy (and other foreigners throughout the centuries),” says Gary Portuesi, managing partner of Authentic Explorations and a Travel + Leisure A-List travel advisor. When you cross the border today, a sign proudly proclaims: “Welcome to the ancient land of freedom,” a nod to San Marino’s role in sheltering at least 100,000 refugees, including Jewish people and Italian resistance fighters, during World War II.
