We live-tweeted it, wrote a piece about it for Cosmopolitan, and gave a bunch of stars their spotlight posts, but it’s time to start wrapping up our coverage of the insane celebrity fashion at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards. Let’s give these pop stars the attention they’re so dearly craving, shall we?
Addison Rae in Miss Claire Sullivan

We admit, we laughed. It’s silly and it’s dumb and that just makes it on point for the VMAs. Our only issue here is that it’s literally underwear – we’d have liked more of showgirl costume – and that the shape of those cups is INSANE.
Anitta in Dolce & Gabbana

As we noted in our Cosmo piece, coming to the VMAs dressed as a bride is practically a requirement at this point. In the grand tradition of Madonna, Britney and Christina, she’s keeping the flame alive. It’s an interesting take for avoiding being literal and for giving more than just “underwear.”
Benson Boone in Dolce & Gabbana

He looks like he’s going to do magic tricks or mime, which turned out to be not that far off from the actual flips he did on stage. It’s cute. We love the boots.
Coco Jones in Lever Couture

This held a strange appeal to us. We say “strange,” because we tend to hate carwash skirts, but the color and textile look great on her and give it a sort of storm cloud effect.
Doechii in Thom Browne

Love it all, especially the hair.
Halle Bailey in Sophie Couture

The cutouts, and the overall “my dress is coming undone” effect is annoying, but she looks so glamorous and beautiful that it almost doesn’t matter.
Halsey in Vintage Versace

We’ll be blunt: we think this dress is ugly and looks cheap. We also don’t think dying her hair to match it was a very good idea.
Karol G in Véronique Leroy

This dress is fun, but it also looks kind of cheap to us. That color is harsh and the airbrush effect of the print is super-chintzy.
Lenny Kravitz in Saint Laurent

We’ve been saying for years that he needed to switch up his look because it had become such a cliche. We feel like he’s fucking with us now.
Lisa in Mugler

We aren’t in love with the design of the bodice, but this dress is so gorgeous and dramatic that it made us a believer in pale beige on the red carpet.
Shawn Mendes in Dolce & Gabbana

Chic but boring.
Ts Madison in Riley Knoxx

It’s the VMAs. Let a girl have her fun.
