It’s TUESDAY and we’re feeling the need for a bright and airy LOunge. Let’s spread out and do a little bit of nothing today, shall we? We’ll go and get the distractions ready for you.

Elizabeth Olsen’s Sister Act
Taking a break from the Marvel universe, the ethereal actress shines in ‘His Three Daughters’, an intense, critically acclaimed drama about a trio of competitive sisters that harks back to her indie roots.

Before her years spent fronting Marvel blockbusters, she worked almost entirely in independent film — projects like Martha Marcy May Marlene, the cult thriller she booked after graduating from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, the Allen Ginsberg biopic Kill Your Darlings and Neon’s Ingrid Goes West. Daughters is a return to the prestige projects she favored early in her career.
But more than that, she sees her work on the movie as emblematic of the career she’d like to build going forward.

Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi to play gothic lovers in Wuthering Heights adaptation from Saltburn director
Emerald Fennell is set to write and direct this new adaptation of Emily Brontë’s classic novel.

Whatever Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie’s souls are made of, his and hers are the same.
Or at least they will be for a time. Robbie (Barbie) and Elordi (Saltburn) are set to star opposite each other in a new adaptation of Emily Brontë’s classic gothic romance, Wuthering Heights. Robbie will star as Catherine Earnshaw, a capricious young woman torn between her love for Elordi’s Heathcliff and the promise of social status with Edgar Linton.
Elordi, who is re-teaming with writer-director Emerald Fennell following Saltburn, is to portray Heathcliff, one of the most infamous romantic heroes in all of Western literature (some might consider him an O.G. f–boi).

Mariah Carey Talks How She Wrote “Hero,” a Patrick Swayze Memory, and Becoming Queen of Christmas
Plus more in this exclusive interview with Mimi as she celebrates 30 years of “All I Want for Christmas Is You.”

In the modern pantheon of Las Vegas residences, few come within a dice roll of Mariah Carey’s.
Sin City is a familiar place for the Grammy Award winner, who made her Las Vegas debut with a four-night residency, Live at the Pearl, in 2009, and more than a decade later, she’s still at it. This year found Carey in her fifth residency—a showcase to commemorate the 19th anniversary of her blockbuster album The Emancipation of Mimi, aptly dubbed the Celebration of Mimi. After wrapping its 2024 run at the Dolby Live in August, the concert will return for an encore this coming January and February.
But before she heads back to the Strip, Carey is preparing to celebrate another anniversary. This October marks 30 years of—cue that twinkling snow globe—“All I Want for Christmas Is You,” and she’s taking another holiday-themed tour on the road.

Great British Bake Off 2024 start date, time, cast and latest news
Bake Off season is upon us!

The Great British Bake Off returns to UK screens this week, just in time to help see us through the drizzly – and frankly uninspiring – start to autumn. And as perhaps the ultimate form of wholesome telly, we’ve never felt like we needed TGBBO 2024 more.
Following underdog PE and science teacher Matty Edgell’s win last year, we’re feeling primed for Bake Off’s 15th season which will see a dozen of the UK’s best bakers go head to head to win the approval of Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith in hopes of securing the title of star baker each week.

Boho is back – and we have one woman to thank
Chemena and the cult of Chloé

We can all agree that fashion has had a predilection for the 2000s for some time, having cycled through all of its best – and worst – hits. With the exception of one trend: boho. But now, some 20 years on since the suede, ethereal frills, floaty handkerchief hemlines and festival dressing that Sienna Miller made famous infiltrated our wardrobes, it’s back – finally.
It’s all thanks to Chemena Kamali (and not TikTok for a change), the newly-installed creative director of the French fashion house Chloé, founded by Gaby Aghion in 1952, which appointed her to the top position in October 2023.

Kate Middleton always relies on this one item for a polished look – it’s the perfect autumnal cover up
Tailoring with the royal seal of approval

While Kate Middleton undoubtedly has a rather large wardrobe (or more likely a dressing room) from which to select her favourite outfits from, the princess tends to stick to a few fail-safe outfit formulas to achieve her signature style. One such outfit, which she returns to again and again, relies heavily on one key item to give it its quintessential polished yet practical look. I’m of course talking about the blazer, arguably the hardest working item in the princess’ wardrobe.

What is salicylic acid and how exactly does it clear up spots?
Spoiler: it’s more than just a deep cleanse for pores.

Few ingredients dive into pores to control oily skin and tackle spots quite like salicylic acid. Dermatologists are on board, too, and most recommend it as the first port of call for unclogging pores and extinguishing blemishes. But how exactly does salicylic acid work? And how should you use it to maximise on its skin-clarifying promise?
To find out, we asked a host of respected skin experts to break down this ingredient, what its benefits are, who should (and shouldn’t) use it and how to incorporate it into a routine for the best results.

22 best quilted jackets that are an autumn essential
From cult-status The Frankie Shop to Free People’s floral updates.

Quilted jackets are up there with trench coats, in our opinion. They remain the outerwear piece the fashion crowd reaches for every autumn, so if you don’t own one already, this is your friendly nudge to invest.
Remember that khaki green Quilted Ripstop Jacket from The Frankie Shop that just about every influencer was wearing last year (and the year before that and the year before that…)? Well that was the silhouette that kick-started everyone’s obsession. With a collarless neckline and oversized silhouette, it’s easy to combat the temperamental weather with as many, or as few, layers underneath.

Straight-Leg Jeans Are (Finally) Having Their Moment In The Spotlight
These fuss-free, forever jeans are a worthy investment for the season ahead

After the death of skinny jeans was officially declared in 2021 – their final days were cemented after they were decried as ‘cheugy’ by New York Magazine – their humble, more playful cousin, the straight-leg jean, has elbowed its way to the fore. […] ‘The beauty of a straight-leg jean is that they can look like a prized vintage pair but have been rigorously tested to ensure a great fit,’ says Libby Page, Net-A-Porter’s market director, confirming that searches for straight-leg jeans have spiked in recent months.

30 Spooky-Chic Halloween Nail Ideas
Halloween is a time to express yourself. But when it comes down to the costume, it’s the details that count. A scary ghostface can be elevated with a truly blood-curdling manicure. Freddie quite literally had his own stiletto-shaped nails. And while it’s only socially acceptable to wear your costume for one day out of the year, a Halloween manicure can be worn for all of Fall (or whenever, we’re not judging).

The Black Women ‘Hidden Figures’ Who Helped Send America To Space Awarded Highest Civilian Honor By Congress
The work of these four Black women mathemiticians and engineers helped put men on the moon and advance space exploration. They were celebrated on Capitol Hill for their historic contributions.

A group of Black women, crucial to NASA’s achievements during the space race and famously known as the “Hidden Figures,” were honored with a Congressional Gold Medal ceremony on Capitol Hill.
These trailblazing mathematicians and engineers considered essential to NASA’s work from 1930 to 1970, helped launch America into space by calculating rocket trajectories and orbits that put men on the moon, all while facing the dual barriers of racism and sexism.
On September 18, they were recognized for the pivtoal roles they played and awarded Congressional Gold Medals, which is the highest civilian honor in the United States. Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan and Mary Jackson were honored posthumously, while Christine Darden, the fourth “Hidden Figure,” was recognized for her contributions as an aeronautical engineer, according to NASA.

After 20 Years, the ‘Lost’ Score Still Rules the Island
IndieWire asked Michael Giacchino about the “Shannonigans” that went into composing music for the series and some “Parting Words” on its legacy.

Folks who write about television are often guilty — and this writer is certainly one of them — of talking about TV music as a character in its own right. It’s usually because the music is helping create key dramatic moments or providing a sense of the show’s tone and environment in a way that goes beyond imagery. But it’s another thing when TV writers themselves recognize the music of their series as a character and actually put into the script, “Insert music here to make this happen.”
According to composer Michael Giacchino, that is exactly what happened on “Lost,” which somehow hit the 20th anniversary of its pilot episode on September 22 — although he didn’t realize it until he was shown scripts much later.

How Healthy Are Apples?
They’re America’s most popular fruit. Here’s why that’s a great thing.

Apples are rich in dietary fiber, a type of complex carbohydrate that our body isn’t capable of digesting on its own. That fiber acts as food for many of the bacteria species that reside in our guts. These bacteria have a powerful impact on our health, affecting everything from cancer risk, to weight, to mood.
A diet high in fruits and vegetables, including apples, has been shown to increase the number of beneficial bacteria and decrease the number of harmful bacteria in people’s guts, said Marie van der Merwe, a nutrition scientist at the University of Memphis. That could lead to better overall health, Dr. van der Merwe said.

Rare Copy of U.S. Constitution, Found in a File Cabinet, Is Up for Auction
An appraiser discovered the 1787 document before a house sale in North Carolina in 2022. It goes up for auction this week.

Ken Farmer, an antiques appraiser, opened a folder that had been stored for decades in a dusty file cabinet in an old mansion in North Carolina and pulled out a creased, worn sheet of paper. He could tell almost immediately that he was looking at a print dating back to the 18th or 19th century.
On that day in 2022, his excitement grew and the hairs on his arms stood up as he recognized the words at the top of the page.
“WE the People of the United States, in order to form a more perfect Union,” it read.

10 Best Places to Go in Europe This Fall for a Last-minute Escape
With lower prices, fewer crowds, and generally pleasant weather, fall is one of the best times for a European vacation.

I’ve always found the idea of a European summer vacation is usually far more glamorous than the reality. The increasingly warmer weather, lack of air conditioning, and crowds of fellow tourists can turn your trip into an uncomfortable and overwhelming experience. Not to mention, summer is the peak season for most European countries, so prices tend to be higher.
With that in mind, I try to plan my transatlantic travels for later in the year, when the temperatures have started to drop but the first major snow is still weeks away.
