It is that most “meh” of days, TUESDAY. We regret to inform you. The good news is that we have tons of distractions for you today, so settle in, order something naughty, and prepare to be dazzled.

James Earl Jones, Dead at 93, Was Darth Vader, Mufasa, and Much More
The actor, who had a debilitating stutter as a child, grew into the richest voice anywhere

The most recognizable voice in both this galaxy and the one far, far away has fallen silent. James Earl Jones, winner of two Tony Awards (and one honorary statuette), two Emmy Awards, a Golden Globe, a Grammy, and an honorary Oscar, has died. His reps at Independent Artist Group confirmed the news to Deadline. He was 93 years old.
The star of stage, screen, and television commercials, as well as the talent behind paradigm-shifting voice-over narration—in the Star Wars franchise, of course, and as the wise Mufasa in the 1994 Disney classic The Lion King—began his career in regional theater during the 1950s.

Beyoncé’s shocking, predictable CMA snub, explained
The CMA snub just proves what Beyoncé was trying to tell us all along.

Despite having the biggest new country album of the year, Beyoncé received a complete shut-out from the 2024 Country Music Awards. Her Cowboy Carter topped the country chart — a historic first for a Black woman singing country — and spent 22 weeks on the Billboard top 200 album ranking. Yet despite the CMAs giving nominations to other pop crossover artists, including Post Malone and Shaboozey, the voting body denied Cowboy Carter nominations in any category.
The rejection marks the second time the CMAs and its audience have clashed with Beyoncé.

Curfew is the thought-provoking new show that explores an alternative reality where men aren’t allowed out after dark
Starring Alexandra Burke, it will explore a woman’s murder while all men are under curfew, and who the culprit could be.

As we continue to grapple with the ongoing national emergency that is violence against women and girls, a new TV series – Curfew – is set to tell a story set in an alternative reality, exploring what could happen if men were kept inside under “curfew” to keep women safe – and the complexities that may come with that.
Starring Alexandra Burke, Industry’s Sarah Parish and Gavin and Stacey’s Larry Lamb, it sees a brutal murder occur during curfew hours, with Parish playing a police officer investigating who the culprit might be. Was it a man out after curfew, or could a woman have committed this act? The politics around the curfew and the pressure for it to succeed seem to factor into the investigation as well, with all not being as it seems.

Thanks to Oasis, ’90s Britpop fashion is about to be everywhere
Today is gonna be the day that we’re gonna throw it back to 1994.

The moment the news broke, fans have already begun plotting their outfits, sparking a flood of searches for so-called ‘Oasis fashion’. According to eBay’s pre-loved style director, Amy Bannerman: “The Gallagher brothers had such an iconic style that resonates with current fashion trends and has never gone out of style – Adidas trainers, 90s T-shirts and classic mod pieces. We’re noticing a huge spike on eBay for all things 90s – whether it’s original and rare band merch or items synonymous with their style.”

8 ideas for shutting down an annoying mansplainer at the gym (from women who’ve done it)
“I smiled back, gave a look of consideration, simply said, ‘No,’ and walked away.”

If you’ve ever worked out, you probably have encountered the dreaded fitness mansplainer. In fact, chances are pretty good that you (unfortunately) know him quite well: He’s the guy who simply can’t stop himself from offering unsolicited advice about everything from lifting technique to training habits – since he, of course, is the ultimate source of knowledge on all of that.
You can try warding off the mansplainer with a big pair of headphones and a don’t-talk-to-me glare. Or if you decide you want to say something back, we feel that too. We know it can be hard to respond the way you want to right at that very moment, which is why we tapped some fitness regulars to see their scripts on how they deal with it.

Turn Me On, starring Bel Powley, tells the dystopian story of a world without love, sex and human emotion
The Everything I Know About Love star and Nick Robinson play a couple who rediscover their sexuality.

Everything I Know About Love star Bel Powley and Maid’s Nick Robinson star in new movie Turn Me On, which explores a rather dystopian question – what would happen in a world removed of the inconvenience, and magic, of human emotion?
It’s a massive question to ask, and the new sci-fi comedy film explores it through the lens of a young couple’s rebellion against society’s rules.
In an interview with GLAMOUR that took place while the movie was still in development stages, Bel described Turn Me On as a film of “self discovery”. “She rediscovers herself and her sexuality,” she said of her character.

Dakota Fanning on Becoming Mean Mommy in The Perfect Couple [This post contains spoilers]
Now that the devious depths of her character, Abby, have been fully revealed, Fanning gets unfiltered about taking inspiration from Uptown Girls, learning that viral dance scene, and embracing her prosthetic baby bump.

“I’ve worked with [director] Susanne Bier before [on Showtime’s The First Lady]. I just love her and would do pretty much anything that she ever asked of me. So when this came up, she called me, and was in her Danish way, giving bullet points—“And you’re the killer.” I was like, “Whoa, whoa, whoa. Okay.”
So before I had read any script, I knew that I was being tasked with the murder, and I was thrilled by that, to be honest. I loved getting to dive into this heightened world to get to play a character who is outrageous, and ultimately responsible for the crux of the show. It was really exciting to just relish in the devilish behavior.”

Conclave Is a Compelling Papal Thriller That Makes One Major Misstep
Ralph Fiennes oversees the selection of the new pope in a film from the director of All Quiet on the Western Front.

Perhaps no organization has as much baroque infrastructure as the Catholic Church, all of its rules and rituals carried out in palaces. The highest and most elaborate rite of them all may be the selection of a new pope, in which the college of cardinals gathers in Rome to seclude themselves for deliberation and define the future of the enterprise. The new film Conclave, which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival on Monday after a debut in Telluride, understands both the seriousness of this process and the campy ridiculousness of it. It’s a suspense drama that flashes more than a few winks to its audience.

Cottage Cheese Is Suddenly Social Media’s Favourite Food… But Why?
Is it just me, or is everyone obsessed with cottage cheese right now? Seen all over social media being spread on bagels, used as a key ingredient in pancakes or mixed in with scrambled eggs, the unsightly and (worst of all) lumpy cheese is undeniably having a moment.

Inside Homo Faber, The Dazzling Design Exhibition In Venice Curated By Luca Guadagnino
Over the centuries, the island of San Giorgio Maggiore in Venice has played a central role in the shifting tides of the city’s history – from its beginnings as an 8th-century church, to becoming a monastery commissioning some of the greatest masterpieces of the Venetian Renaissance, to being memorialised by EM Forster in A Passage to India as a byword for the genius of Italian architecture.
One thing San Giorgio Maggiore likely hasn’t seen before, however? The monastery’s refectory – with its reproduction of Veronese’s epic “Wedding at Cana”, the original of which was plundered by Napoleon’s army and now hangs in the Louvre – covered in floor-to-ceiling powder pink drapes. Described by its maker as “architectural ice cream”, an enormous mirrored banqueting table has been set up to run the length of the room, topped with everything from kitschy Meissen porcelain fruit bowls to translucent anchovies and stuffed courgette flowers blown from glass by the Venetian artisan Bruno Amadi.

Check Your Fridge: Eggs Recalled in 6 States Over Salmonella Fears, With 65 People Falling Ill
All sizes, egg types, and cartons bearing all expiration dates have been affected.

A Salmonella outbreak that has caused 65 people to fall ill in nine states has been linked to a bad batch of eggs.
On September 6, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced the recall of Milo’s Poultry Farms and Tony’s Fresh Market (both owned by Milo’s Poultry Farms) branded eggs as they may have been contaminated with Salmonella. Salmonella, the FDA added, is “an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.”
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 65 illnesses have been reported, with 24 requiring hospitalization.

Heinz Made Some Limited-Edition ‘Ketchup Sprinkles’ — but It’s Not What It Seems
‘Sometimes, the gutsiest work happens when we take things that aren’t serious very seriously.’

Heinz really, really wants the Dutch to swap their beloved mayonnaise for ketchup when dipping their fries. So much so that it’s willing to turn its ketchup into the only thing the Dutch love more than mayo: Sprinkles.
OK, let’s get one thing out of the way. No, this is not a real product you can actually buy. Rather, it’s very, very clever marketing — think McDonald’s Japan and its “French Fry Perfume.” But honestly, we’re kind of here for it and would love to see the ketchup sprinkles come to market.
But, in an effort to educate Dutch people on the fact that ketchup is an excellent choice as a French fry dip, Heinz and the ad agency Gut Amsterdam created a very limited supply of ketchup “hagelslag,” which are typically chocolate sprinkles that Dutch people love to put on bread.

James Earl Jones, Voice of Unquestionable Authority, Titan of the Stage and Ideal Elevator Companion
The actor, whose rich baritone was as indelible a part of Darth Vader’s menacing power as the black helmet, mask and cloak, was also an absolute treasure of the American theater.

His booming voice made him a natural for roles of authority, but he radiated strength even in silence. Jones could also modulate the powerful instrument that became his trademark to bring out warm, velvety textures in more avuncular parts, invariably showing great depth of feeling whether he was playing hubris or humility.
Beyond Darth Vader, movie audiences probably know Jones best from his role as Admiral James Greer in three Tom Clancy adaptations, The Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger; and as the king of a fictional African nation in Coming to America and its sequel, which was his final feature appearance.

What Are Mooncakes? Everything to Know About the Mid-Autumn Festival Snack
Learn the symbolism behind the striking Chinese pastry.

If you’ve ever stepped foot in an Asian bakery or grocery store during autumn, you’ve probably seen stacks of assorted boxes with variations of the popular Chinese pastry: the mooncake. Enclosed in decorated metal tins or glossy boxes to make them easy to gift, mooncakes are commonly associated with the Mid-Autumn Festival, which is also known as the Mooncake Festival. This year’s Mid-Autumn Festival takes place on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, but the festival takes place every year on the 15th day of the 8th month in the Chinese lunar calendar. While the Mid-Autumn Festival is known for its selection of delectable food, none is as iconic as the mooncake.

Blake Lively Was ‘Upset’ by It Ends With Us Drama: ‘It Felt Very Out of Control to Her’
The actress was “pretty surprised at the backlash and drama” surrounding the film

Blake Lively was caught off guard by the negative attention she faced while rolling out her hit movie It Ends With Us.
The actress was “pretty surprised at the backlash and drama” that surrounded the romantic drama’s release last month, a source tells PEOPLE.
“She initially felt very vulnerable and upset,” adds the source. “During the promotion of the movie, not one day went by when she was not in the news in an unfavorable light. She’s just not used to this kind of drama.”
The source says the situation “felt out of control to her.” Still, Lively, 37, who next appears in A Simple Favor 2 with Anna Kendrick, “enjoys working and will continue to push forward projects that she’s excited about.

James Earl Jones: A Life in Pictures
Onstage and in movies and television, Jones delivered with a deep, authoritative, powerful and sometimes menacing voice.

If it seemed at times that James Earl Jones was everywhere, it was perhaps because he really was. Over a 50-year career, Jones — who died on Monday at the age of 93 — acted prolifically on television, in movies and under the spotlight of Broadway stages, one of which is now named after him.
An imposing man who stood taller than six feet, Jones was hard to miss. But it was his voice — deep, authoritative, powerful and sometimes menacing — that some fans may most remember. His voice work as Darth Vader in the original “Star Wars” trilogy and as Mufasa in “The Lion King” conveyed his presence to millions without audiences ever seeing him. Here are some snapshots from his life and career.

Over the last 40 years, Vanessa Williams has made her mark—both as a hit recording artist and as a beloved stage and screen star who, with her cunning wit and commanding presence, has carried Broadway smashes like Kiss of the Spider Woman and Emmy-winning series like Ugly Betty. Now, at 61 years old, the former Miss America is conquering London’s West End, where she’ll bring the fictional fashion editor Miranda Priestly onstage for the very first time in The Devil Wears Prada. “I love dipping into powerful women,” she tells her music collaborator Trixie Mattel over Zoom, a drag queen who understands what it takes to play a venomous diva. “I think that’s what’s made me a fighter.”
