San Sebastian Film Festival Style File: Lupita Nyong’o at THE WILD ROBOT Photo Call and Premiere

As we may have noted a time or two before, we are always going to adore covering Lupita Nyong’o because she treats the promotional efforts of voice acting work as hard as she would an Oscar-bait prestige drama. Every appearance calls for eye-popping, photogenic high-fashion pieces and styling. Not that we’d expect any less for the San Sebastian Film Festival, mind you. The Empress took the opportunity of the festival to get a little graphic and a little sexy.

This is a genuinely interesting look. The color is subtly striking on her. We don’t love the white part, especially with that airbrush effect. We wonder if the dress would be less interesting without it, however. The floral placement really makes the look, but we suspect a lot of folks won’t like where it hits. The shoes are gorgeous and pair well with the hem length.

While there’s nothing new – and a lot to hate – about a sheer lace dress and public undergarments, we can’t help thinking she lends this somewhat stale style a sweetness and lightness. Maybe it’s because she doesn’t dip in this well too often. It can’t be because of the flower choker, because we kind of hate it.
