New York Film Festival: Angelina Jolie in Vintage Madame Grès at the MARIA Premiere

We never thought we’d see the day when we’d observe that Angelina Jolie is engaging in some red carpet theme-dressing, mainly because her style is so rigidly neutral and minimalist that it would be difficult to picture engaging in any sort of style cosplay to promote her work. But all of the stars aligned in this case, because if you’re playing a legendary Greek mid-Century opera star, a vintage Madame Grès goddess gown is pretty much the perfect way to promote it.

Evidently she picked the gown herself from the Mon Vintage showroom in Paris. The pleating and draping are very pretty when you’re up close, but look a little fussy and unflattering from further away. Still, it’s the quintessential Angie gown and it’s also the perfect way to promote a Maria Callas film, so we can’t get mad at this one for being a little dull.
