PinFanari Restaurant – Fira, Santorini, Greece

Darlings, not only is it FRIDAY, but it’s also the start of a three-day weekend for the American kittens. Because we’re swamped with Venice Film Festival, Lord of the Rings and Drag Race content for the next few days, we’ll be postponing our podcast until after the holiday. But don’t you worry, we have a ton of things to distract you between now and then. Settle in.

“I Like to Think It Made Her Smile”: Angelina Jolie On The Deeper Meaning Behind Her Dazzling Cartier Jewellery In Maria
With Maria, she delivers arguably the greatest performance in her already remarkable career, fully embodying the legendary Greek opera singer in her 1970s twilight years in Paris: her striking kohl-rimmed eyes, her fraying voice, and her tempestuous moods. To achieve it, Jolie dedicated herself to an intensive training process so that she wasn’t just delivering a portrait of Callas, but instead became her, somehow. “Pablo expected me to work very hard, and he expected me to sing,” she says. “I went into classes for six or seven months to learn to really sing, to take Italian classes, to understand and study opera, to immerse [myself in it] completely and do the work. For Maria, there was no other way.” However gruelling that journey may have been, it was a process that left Jolie feeling creatively fulfilled. “I am deeply grateful to Pablo for having faith in me to do this,” she adds.
Yet there was another, equally important, element of Callas’s life that Jolie was fully committed to realising on screen: her style.

Winona Ryder’s Songs of Innocence and Experience
Thirty-six years after the release of Tim Burton’s haunted house classic, Winona Ryder returns to the role that made her famous, in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. For Esquire, the singular star reflects on the highs and lows of her extraordinary life and career

Winona Ryder is a brilliant and beautiful American woman of 52, small, warm, slightly dotty, and completely irresistible. To say that she is good company is to observe that the skyscrapers in New York, where we meet, have many floors. She is charming beyond, with a singular, freestyle approach to conversation, to life, that is by turns head-spinning, intense, and LOL funny — to herself, as much as to me or anyone else.
She has been famous since she was in her teens. She has lived a life of precarious highs and plunging lows. She is a star of a sort one seldom encounters, even in my strange job: a person engaged with the world, full of questions and thoughts about it, but also slightly distant from the everyday, a dancer to the beat of her own drum. If you are the sort of person, as I am, who venerates those people who go at things in their own way, who make their own rules, then this Winona is for you. If you ask me, she ought to be available over the counter. The world would be a better place.

John Malkovich Goes Deep on an Epic Photo Collaboration
To mark the publication of Malkovich: Then Came John, the actor discusses his decades-long work recreating iconic images with photographer Sandro Miller.

John Malkovich, who in 1976 began his career with the independent Steppenwolf troupe in the suburbs of Chicago, would venture onto the big screen in films such as The Killing Fields, in which he played a photojournalist; Empire of the Sun; Dangerous Liaisons; Of Mice and Men; In the Line of Fire; Con Air; and the eponymously titled Being John Malkovich.
In addition to taking on film, stage, and television roles, Malkovich would write and direct plays, direct and produce films, and create his own fashion brand. As Miller has said of his muse, “Malkovich could very well be the real-life version of the ‘Most Interesting Man in the World.’”

The Kaos soundtrack is perfection – here’s every song on the Netflix show
Including Don’t Fear The Reaper.

Through the series we see contemporary music fused with classical, reflecting the disharmony between the two worlds and fusion of new and old. Each song has been carefully curated to set the tone of the particular God in that scene, with Zeus typically being backed by classical music and opera songs, while humans tend to feature more songs from indie and rock genres.
Throw in an original score by Isabella Summers (a founding member of Florence And The Machine), and you’re in for a real treat of a track list.
Here’s every single song on the Kaos soundtrack to help you build out your next vibey playlist.

Witch, please.

Halloween may still be weeks away, but that hasn’t stopped TikTok from forward-planning costumes and Halloween makeup inspo in a major way. My signature autumn perfume took me 9 years to find (and I’m a beauty editor)
People always ask me what I’m wearing.

One of the cosiest ways to signpost the changing season is with an autumn perfume. It physically (or olfactorily) creates a mood shift post-summer. Of course, there are perfumes that you can wear all year round, but as the days get darker and colder, and our nesting instincts kick in, I personally love a scent that can coddle me, like my favourite chunky knit.
As luck would have it, being a beauty editor, I’ve been able to sniff my way through dozens and dozens of autumn scents. But while there have been some beautiful contenders, none have stopped me in my tracks. That is, until last autumn when a new perfume drop coaxed me out of my fragrance-safe zone (skin scents, light, romantic florals, earthy citruses) and into a new chapter with a crazily addictive autumn scent.

Just Jack (Bieber): Welcome To The ‘Normal’ Celebrity Baby Name Renaissance
As The Biebers choose Jack for their newborn son, it appears that the days of celebrities naming children after random nouns and adjectives might, finally, be numbered. Eilidh Dorgan poses the pros and cons of a less-than-average moniker.

The winds of change are blowing in the Hollywood Hills. First, with the birth of Sofia Richie Grainge’s daughter Eloise, and now with the announcement of Hailey and Justin Bieber’s son Jack – it appears that the days of naming children after random nouns and adjectives might, finally, be numbered.
To see a celebrity baby name announcement that is not inspired by a vegetable, weather pattern, or sound, is a welcomed change. In an ocean of children named after cities, animals, or directions, the name Jack stands out for its refreshing unpretentiousness. Jack is a solid appellation. It doesn’t age and transcends socio-economic standing. Everyone has fancied a Jack or two in their lives. They are Jacks-of-all-trades, Jack-the-lads, Jumping Jack Flashes. From Jack Sparrow to Jack White to Jack Kerouac to Jack O’Connell, they are a gang of lovable rogues.

Here’s How To Properly Cut Your Fringe Like A Pro
Because who has the time to bi-weekly appointments?

There are certain beauty things that are fairly low-risk to DIY; manicures, pedicures, creating your own face mask from good ol’ honey and oatmeal spring to mind. But others, such as cutting your own fringe, are often best done in the salon by well-versed professionals who know their way around a pair of shears.
But let’s be real, as much as we love our hairdressers, finding the time to pop into the salon every couple of weeks to trim a fringe is challenging. Especially for those whose hair tends to grow quickly.

Think You Hate Cottage Cheese? These Techniques Might Change Your Mind
Get ready to embrace how delicious this fresh cheese can be.

Cottage cheese is a controversial ingredient.
Similar to mayonnaise, it’s the kind of food that people either love — or love to hate. And I get it: The signature texture of this fresh cheese is different from what we expect in dairy products. This is because cottage cheese is made up of curds — created by adding either bacterial cultures or acid to milk — which are later rinsed and then mixed with cream. But if you do like cottage cheese, it can be an incredibly easy tool for adding protein to your meals — and as the internet has realized in recent years, it’s also astonishingly versatile and delicious.

Why So Many People Are Going “No Contact” with Their Parents
A growing movement wants to destigmatize severing ties. Is it a much-needed corrective, or a worrisome change in family relations?

Family estrangement—the process by which family members become strangers to one another, like intimacy reversed—is still somewhat taboo. But, in some circles, that’s changing. In recent years, advocates for the estranged have begun a concerted effort to normalize it. Getting rid of the stigma, they argue, will allow more people to get out of unhealthy family relationships without shame. There is relatively little data on the subject, but some psychologists cite anecdotal evidence that an increasing number of young people are cutting out their parents. Others think that we’re simply becoming more transparent about it.

Welcome to New MILF Cinema 2024 is the year of onscreen moms climbing atop a youthful stud and running off into the sunset.
Historically, the MILF has been the object of a film, rarely the subject — or, when she was the subject, she often found herself trapped in a grave drama or punished for her age-defying crimes. […] So why the abrupt MILF shift into rom-com territory? Is it really just about — as these films’ marketing departments would have you believe — Feminism, specifically by way of subverting the ancient age-gap-relationship trope featuring older men and younger women? Or are these movies quietly reinforcing the norms they seek to critique by acting like it’s inherently irreverent for a woman to date below her age group, or impossible to write a 40-plus female character who considers herself a vibrant sexual being without making the internal question of her viability into a central plot point?

20 Essential Movies Shot On 70mm Film, From ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’ to ‘Oppenheimer’
Christopher Nolan shot the entirety of “Oppenheimer” using 65/70mm film stock, which is one of Hollywood’s grandest traditions.

70mm is back! Thanks to Paul Thomas Anderson, Quentin Tarantino, and Christopher Nolan, one of the oldest and grandest traditions in Hollywood is making a comeback after years of financial setbacks and near-extinction. As Nolan has said many times, shooting in 70mm proved an immersive and more textured experience than any other form of cinema (side note: The 70mm film process actually uses 65mm film stock, which is printed onto 70mm film for projection purposes).

As a new trailer offers a stunning first look at Angelina Jolie as Maria Callas, Tatler revisits the life of ‘the world’s greatest diva’
A talent that defied belief, a troubled childhood, and an affair with Aristotle Onassis: Maria Callas is one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. Now, as the first trailer drops for Maria, Pablo Larraín and Angelina Jolie will take on the soprano whose gift many attributed to divine intervention

La Divinia. The divine one. The voice of Maria Callas is perhaps more at home with the stars on the proscenium arch of the Royal Opera House than the stages she graced during her illustrious career. Considered by many to be the most gifted soprano of all time, her instrument could soar to the most delicate of coloratura and descend to the heavy depths of Wagernian drama. This monumental range, along with her mastery of tone colour and ornamentation, portamento and chiaroscuro, made Maria Callas a muse for some of the most influential artists of the 20th century. Tullio Serafin, the legendary conductor and musical director of La Scala, where Callas found her musical home, called her virtuosity ‘extraordinary, almost frightening’; Franco Zeffirelli found her ‘incredible’; and the father of Italian cinema’s golden age, Luchino Visconti, Count of Lonate Pozzolo, admitted he only became a director after hearing Maria Callas sing.

Stripes Are More Popular Than Ever—Here’s How to Use Them in Your Décor
Bold or subtle, stripes are here to stay.

Stripes never really go out of style. Whether it’s a bold nautical stripe in your costal getaway, a subtle ticking stripe that fits right in with the Nancy Meyers aesthetic, or a crisp, sophisticated pinstripe, this pattern stands the test of time.
Mary Kathryn Wells, an interior designer in Nashville, is a fierce promoter of the staying power of a stripe. “I love that a stripe is such a timeless way to bring in pattern; I don’t have to worry that in a few years I’ll be tired or it will be dated. Stripes age wonderfully,” she says.
But that doesn’t mean that every stripe feels fresh on every occasion. There are certain stripes that will come and go with the trends, and we’re sharing a few ways interior designers suggest you make them look current now.

Food safety pros explain.

26 Gorgeous Décor Ideas to Make Your Kitchen More Inviting
Take your kitchen from a utilitarian space to your favorite room in the house.

We often don’t approach decorating a kitchen the same way we would a bedroom or living room, but taking care to personalize this space can go a long way. After all, as the “heart of the home,” it’s an area where you and your family spend a lot of time.
“The kitchen needs to be a place for people to gather and break bread together, show off the owner’s personal style, and provide a comfortable space to hang out when you’re not entertaining,” says Andrew Pharis, architect and interior design expert at Vertical Arts. “Without décor, a kitchen is simply a utilitarian space for preparing food.”
For some inspiration, read through these designer-approved kitchen decor ideas.
