PinLa Réserve Bar at Hôtel La Réserve – Knokke-Heist, Belgium

It’s THURSDAY, darlings! And the weather outside the walls of T Lo Manor is pleasant! Downright brisk! This does not mean, however, that we will be spending the day outside; not when we have such a gorgeously moody LOunge beckoning. Put your heinie on some velvet.

Gena Rowlands Dies: ‘The Notebook’, ‘Gloria’ And ‘A Woman Under the Influence’ Star Was 94
She retired from Hollywood in 2015 after earning four Emmy Awards, two Golden Globes and two Oscar nominations. Her Oscar noms included A Woman Under the Influence and Gloria, both borne of collaborations with her late husband, John Cassavetes. The duo made an indelible mark on American independent film, not just for the often revelatory end product, but also for the DIY way they made their movies.

Gena Rowlands, Acting Legend and Notebook Star, Dies at 94
Rowlands’ son, Nick Cassavettes—who directed The Notebook—revealed in June of 2024 that Rowlands, like her character in the film, was suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.

Rowlands was a character actor who could carry a film. She gave an Emmy and Golden Globe-winning performance in the 1987 made-for-TV The Betty Ford Story, and won an Emmy as a wife left destitute by her recently-deceased husband’s gambling in the 1991 TV movie Face of a Stranger.
But she was always a welcome and elevating presence in supporting roles. Cate Blanchett said as much while introducing Rowlands at the 2015 Governor’s Award ceremony where she received her honorary Oscar: “The intense authenticity and the immediacy of her acting seems to me to be the closest that anyone has ever come to capturing on film that presence of a live stage performance.”

Tadanobu Asano on His Wild Shōgun Ride and the Director He Hopes to Work With Next
The award-winning Japanese star is up for his first Emmy for his fan-favorite turn in FX’s feudal Japan epic.

Over his three-decade-plus screen career, Tadanobu Asano has established himself in his native Japan as a master of a particular kind of character: morally compromised, filled with surprises, and fantastically entertaining. But most American audiences were playing catch up to his skills when FX’s Shōgun began airing on Hulu this past winter. Early marketing and buzz had (rightly) promised breakout performances from leads Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai; plenty of attention was paid to Cosmo Jarvis too, as he stepped into a meaty role originated by Richard Chamberlain. Yet it only took one episode of the series for less familiar viewers to fall in a complicated kind of love with Asano’s Yabushige.

Myha’la Is Thinking Big
While her ‘Industry’ counterpart is in a free fall, the actress is boldly entering a new phase of life, determined to take up more space in her personal and professional endeavors. Here, she breaks down the plans she’s manifesting for her future.

Myha’la was ready for a change: She wanted to cut off all her hair. But it was just before the actress was set to begin filming the new season of HBO’s Industry, so before picking up the scissors, she picked up the phone and called her bosses, showrunners Mickey Down and Konrad Kay. Myha’la plays Harper Stern on the intense, sexy drama set at a fictional London bank where everybody is cutthroat, conniving, and constantly on cocaine. Harper started the series as the ultimate outsider: a self-made Black American woman elbowing her way into a world dominated by wealthy, white British men. She spends two seasons deploying Machiavellian moves to secure her position, at tremendous personal cost—in her wake: torched bridges, scorched earth—only to be outed as a fraud by her mentor, who has her fired in the second season finale.

She’s done it again – Victoria Beckham drops another brilliant beauty product and as a seasoned beauty editor I cannot fault it
There was a time – long, long ago – when I used to wear red lipstick on a daily basis. I used to consider it my signature look, which made snogging my now-husband incredibly tricky – and messy. Now, on the other hand, I never wear it. The upkeep, the panic that I’d catch it on the sleeve of my favourite white shirt and the inevitable fading that makes you look unhinged is just not for me. Which is why in recent years my absolute ride or die lip product has been a tinted lip balm.

‘Boring’ pedicure colours continue to dominate—and this classic hue is the only shade I’m wearing right now
While summer pedicure trends come and go with the seasons, some shades remain a constant so timeless that you can practically see the nail tech roll their eyes when you ask for it at the salon. For the minimalists, these range from the fresh white pedi to ever chic french tips while pedicure anarchists may have thrown convention out the window this summer and dipped a toe into a statement, yet still classic, black shade.
For lovers of colour however, there’s only one hue that delivers on boldness while still giving a timeless look—the red pedicure. And, lucky for you, it’s totally on trend right now. Buckle up, it’s officially red pedi season.

How to add the butter yellow trend to your home this season
Flashes of butter yellow were peppered all over the spring/summer 2024 runways – from Bottega Veneta to Sandy Liang and Molly Goddard – but this mood-boosting hue isn’t just confined to the runway or the street style scene. In fact, we’ve seen it trickling into the realm of interior design, too.
If you’ve so much as scrolled through your Instagram feed in the past few months, you’ll likely have seen the zesty lemon hue popping up in stylish, well-curated homes, adding a subtle dose of ‘dopamine decor’.

Stanley x Barbie is everything
The collaboration we never knew we needed.

Still the it-girl water bottle, the iconic Stanley Quencher has garnered quite the cult following on TikTok and social media over the past few years. This summer, it continues to earn its place as the must-have hydration accessory — especially in light of eight new Barbie™ x Stanley Quenchers launching. Each representing an unforgettable Barbie™ era, FYI.
To celebrate 65 years of Stanley, the water bottle brand has teamed up with the star of last summer – Barbie – to bring Barbiecore and its corresponding saccharine shade back. While the date of launch is currently under wraps, you can sign up to be the first to get notified when the launch date drops.

‘Who are we to judge her?’: Nadia Parkes on portraying Chloe Ayling in BBC series Kidnapped
She speaks to GLAMOUR about prepping for the role, meeting Chloe, and the impact of the TV show.

Model and kidnapping victim Chloe Ayling’s name is back in the headlines as a BBC TV series tells the story of her traumatic experience, with actor Nadia Parkes playing the lead role.
In 2017, Chloe was kidnapped, drugged and held captive in the Italian countryside after travelling to Milan for a shoot. When she was released six days later, she made efforts not to implicate the man who kidnapped her because he’d told her it was a wider sex trafficking organisation she should fear, not him – one who could harm her and her family. This was not the case. Chloe just didn’t know this at the time.

How to Choose the Perfect Haircut for Your Face Shape, According to the Pros
When it comes to choosing a haircut or sticking to a signature style, we often go with a look we love or a vibe we covet from a celebrity. However, experts say that rather than jumping on the latest trend blindly, consider your specific face shape, which can help you determine which iteration will look best on you. “The goal is always to create a flattering shape or silhouette to draw attention to the best features,” explains celebrity hairstylist Ashley Streicher.

How Extravagant Ice Sculptures Got Cool Again
Chopped fruit cascading down a pedestal. Little lambs painstakingly sculpted out of butter. Table-sprawling mortadella sandwiches. The trend of putting an artistic spin on our tablescapes (if you can even call them that anymore?) has reached a fever pitch—with inventive, sometimes gravity-defying creations challenging how we entertain and shifting our perception of food as an art form. And one medium that seems to be on the rise lately? Ice.
Recently spotted at dinner parties as vessels for candles, or as a clamshell-shaped topper on a seafood tower, or as a ground-level installation for serving chilled canapés, experimental ice formations are being revived in both elegant and surprising ways. After all, the fleeting beauty of ice lies in its process of transformation.

Racing Driver Nerea Martí on Gender Inequalities in Motorsports: ‘It’s Still a Difficult World’
The F1 Academy supports women in motorsports, giving young talents more visibility in a male-dominated industry. “Our mission is clear: we want to show young girls and women that there is a place for them in our sport, both on and off the track,” says Susie Wolff, managing director of the F1 Academy.
Its first successes are already evident: “In our second season this year, we have taken a big step forward. We are now racing at seven events on three continents alongside the FIA Formula 1 World Championship and are supported by all 10 F1 teams, which gives us an incredible platform and the opportunity to reach new target groups,” says Wolff.

In Chicago, Delis Are Destinations — Not Sandwich Shops
Seek out piles of sliced cold cuts at the best Chicago delis.

I’ve always found it curious and kind of charming when New Yorkers use the word “deli” as an indefinite noun as in, “We’re going out to get some deli.” For them, it’s a ubiquitous and comforting dining choice like Italian or Chinese. Not so in Chicago. Instead of neighborhood delis we’ve got endless sandwich shops — places like The Original Beef of Chicagoland in “The Bear” where you can order from a menu that includes some combination of Italian beef, hamburgers, hot dogs, and gyros.

What Does the ‘Dolphin-Safe’ Tuna Label Really Mean?
Here’s what you need to know before you make your next sandwich.

It’s a trusted, easy, go-to lunch. A few pieces of bread, some mayo, dijon, celery, and a simple can of tuna. Or so you thought.
As you piece it all together, you may have noticed on your tuna can’s label that there’s a small indicator reading, “dolphin safe.” But what exactly does that mean? And can you really trust that the can is telling you the truth?

Coca-Cola and Oreo Are Teaming Up to Bring You the Collaboration You Never Thought You Needed
Oreo Coke? Sign us up.

Coca-Cola and Oreo have forged an unexpected friendship, pairing up as “Besties” to release an unconventional cookie and soda flavor.
In early September, the two mega brands will release two limited-edition products: Oreo Coca-Cola Sandwich Cookies and Coca-Cola Oreo Zero Sugar limited-edition soda. And they’re really playing up this “Besties” thing.
“Bringing together the playfulness of Oreo and the real magic of Coca-Cola is unexpected, but also feels right because our brands are alike in so many ways,” Oana Vlad, Coca-Cola Company’s Global vice president of Brand Strategy, said in a statement provided to Food & Wine. “As a first-of-its-kind collaboration for both brands, we are thrilled for besties around the world to join us in celebrating new products, great experiences and unexpected moments of connection.”

Kim Kardashian Inks First-Look Deal With 20th TV, Sets Hulu Show With La La Anthony
The project, also from ‘Black-ish’ creator Kenya Barris, is based on Anthony’s best-seller ‘The Love Playbook.’

Kim Kardashian is formalizing her relationship with Disney’s 20th Television.
The reality star and entrepreneur has signed a first-look deal with 20th TV, under which she’ll develop scripted series projects. The deal comes after Kardashian starred in the most recent season of FX’s American Horror Story and the forthcoming Hulu legal drama All’s Fair, both of which are produced by 20th (and Ryan Murphy).
As part of the first-look deal, Kardashian is teaming with her friend La La Anthony and Black-ish creator Kenya Barris for a show based on Anthony’s best-selling book The Love Playbook: Rules for Love, Sex and Happiness. The show, which is in development, is called Group Chat; Barris is creating the series and Anthony is set to star.

Gena Rowlands, Who Created the Blueprint for the Modern Independent Film Star, Dead at 94
The four-time Emmy winner and two-time Oscar nominee was best known for her collaborations with her late husband, John Cassavetes.

Gena Rowlands, the legendary actress who became one of the first major faces of American independent film through her collaborations with her late husband John Cassavetes, has died at the age of 94.
Rowlands, who had been suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, died on Wednesday, August 14 in the afternoon at her home in Indian Wells, California, according to multiple media reports. No cause of death was given.
Born in Cambria, Wisconsin in 1930, Rowlands began acting in stage productions in the 1950s, gradually working her way up from regional theater to Broadway before becoming a regular presence on television. By the end of the decade she was frequently leading TV movies and making guest appearances on major network shows.

The 30 Best Movie Scores of the 2000s
From Björk to Jon Brion, and from “Lord of the Rings” to “Revenge of the Sith,” these were the best movie scores of a decade brimming with great ones.

If the movies of the 2000s were defined by a period of violent transition (both onscreen and off), the music that was written for those movies captured the full sweep of that change — and the endless possibilities it allowed for in turn. The aughts were absent a single identifying element as strong to the decade as synths were to the ’80s or symphonic grandeur was to the ’90s, and to judge by our list of the period’s best scores it sounds like they might have been all the better for it.

Is it possible to be fully authentic?
Why getting “real” in the age of personal branding feels so hard.

The concept of authenticity — knowing who you truly are and behaving in a way that aligns with that vision — is important for many people, not just for teens coming into their independence, but for anyone questioning how they show up in relationships, with family, or at work. To live authentically might mean bucking expectations set by your parents and pursuing a career of which they might not approve. It could be an aesthetic choice, like a sense of personal style or a haircut. Being authentic could mean feeling fully at ease and present around a group of people without the sense that you must perform to fit in.

Tiara of the Month: the lowdown on Princess Anne’s Meander Tiara as she celebrates her birthday
It might be hard to imagine the famously unfussy royal in a diadem but she does wear one, and it’s one of the most beautiful in the Royal Family’s collection

She’s best known for her no-nonsense approach to life, as well as her love of the outdoors and equestrian sports, but despite her go-to style comprising Barbour jackets and Dubarry boots, Princess Anne has been known to wear a tiara when the occasion calls for it.

Cailee Spaeny Is Still Learning How to Be a Star
But the young actress, who has the lead role in “Alien: Romulus,” is also wondering if she wants to be one at all.

Spaeny, now 26, is still reasonably bushy tailed. She has wide-set eyes, an open countenance suggestive of some Great Plain and an unfussy femininity that she can ratchet up or way down as a role demands. There’s also an intensity to her, a tinge of the steeliness that had her paying her own way when she was barely a teenager. Hollywood jumped on that, too.

Gena Rowlands, ‘The Notebook’ and ‘A Woman Under the Influence’ Star, Dies at 94
Rowlands’ role as Mabel Longhetti in the 1974 drama “A Woman Under the Influence,” written for her and directed by husband John Cassavetes, landed the actor the first of two Academy Award nominations. The other nom was for “Gloria” (1980), also directed by her husband. In November 2015, she was awarded an honorary Academy Award at the annual Governors Awards in recognition of her storied career.
“Working this long? I didn’t even think I’d be living this long,” she confessed to Variety ahead of the event in the roaring, throaty laugh instantly familiar from “A Woman Under the Influence,” as well as “Faces,” “Opening Night” and other Cassavetes-directed drams.

How Long to Cook Burgers on the Grill—From Rare to Well Done
Find the perfect time and temperature for cooking every type of burger to any degree of doneness.

Burgers on the grill and summer parties go together like Champagne and New Year’s Eve—but acing the temperature and doneness of the burgers you’re plating is much trickier than pouring a glass of bubbly. Every guest at your party will have their own idea of the “right” level of doneness, from “still-pink-in-the-middle” rare to a “perfectly in the middle” medium-well burger to an “almost-too-dry” well done. And the patties can go from medium to overdone if you look away for just a moment. Follow our time and temperature guide to make this summer’s cookout truly effortless.

11 Things You Should Never Store in the Garage—But Probably Are
Garages are susceptible to temperature and humidity fluctuations, which these items cannot withstand.

The garage can quickly become a catchall for all of the things you don’t have room for in your home, including seasonal decorations, landscaping tools, and other essentials. But despite being a convenient and out-of-sight storage area, many garages are not climate-controlled and are usually susceptible to pests, inclement weather, dirt, and mold. Because of this, there are certain items experts say you should never store in your garage.

This Picturesque Road Trip Is the Most-searched Route in the U.S. — and It Passes by Mountains and Beaches
Put the pedal to the metal on the Pacific Coast Highway.

A whopping 75 percent of Americans said they planned to take a road trip in the summer of 2024, according to The Vacationer’s summer travel survey. If you haven’t hit the road yet this season, you better hop to it, as we only have a few weeks left until the fall air starts to set in. And if you need ideas on where you should go on said road trip, Rustic Pathways, a student travel company, has a list.
