For many stars, the Venice Film Festival red carpet is a time of high anxiety, when one’s professional reputation is up for assessment as well as one’s ability to work a look. So many stars wind up looking stressed or nervous in this setting, but for Cate Blanchett, old pro, it’s like coming home.
She looks as relaxed and unfussed as she’d be in her own kitchen. Of course it’s theater, but that’s the point. That’s what Good Lady Cate has always understood. The whole public display of modern stardom is theater and she’s as at home here as she would be on a film set because she made it her business to understand fashion and how to use it as branding and publicity. She looks amazing and she also looks like she took about ten minutes to get ready. The gown is simple, but stunning. We like that she went for a slightly downplayed face and slightly messy hair. It contributes to that whole “I can do this in my sleep” sense of ease.
