We thought Anne Hathaway wearing a dress from the Gap at a Bulgari party in Rome would be a great candidate for an “IN or OUT” post. The only problem? The dress. Or rather, the entire look:

GAP Inc’s creative director Zac Posen is definitely on a mission to rebrand the brand, what with him providing this custom look and the highly lauded denim gown Da’Vine Joy Randolph wore to the Met Gala. It’s smart work; taking textiles or garments – like a plain white oxford shirt – that are practically synonymous with the brand, and rethinking or reworking them into something far more formal. To be fair, we don’t know what the point to all of this rebranding is supposed to be. After all, the Gap doesn’t carry formalwear (let alone sizing for Da’Vine), so these things may put the brand name on everyone’s lips, but it’s doubtful to drive traffic to stores.

Anyway, the reason we didn’t put it up to a vote is because we know that corset situation was going to ruin the idea for most of you. The thing is, the idea of an oxford shirtwaist gown is a solid one. We just don’t understand why they supplied her with such a sloppy take on the idea.
