The Piano Bar – Limerick, Ireland
It’s a lovely, non-sunny morning in London and we’re about to head out for a long day of being obnoxious Americans, but of course we had to put together a few opinionated posts to keep you entertained for the day. It’s our calling, darlings. Today is THURSDAY, so settle in for a hours of doing nothing important at all.
Inside Capote’s Battle Royale, Starring Swans Diane Lane, Demi Moore, & Chloë Sevigny
When Truman Capote published the secrets of his closest confidantes, the betrayal ignited a scandal that’s still smoldering 50 years later. Now a new series from Ryan Murphy explores why we should still be careful what we wish for.
How do you define the enduring appeal of some of the most storied women of the 20th century? Ryan Murphy has a thought. “They were like the original Real Housewives,” he says, not without a hint of admiration. “That’s something now that people are obsessed with.”
In fact, he’s banking on it. This winter the limited series he produced, Feud: Capote vs. the Swans, will premiere on FX, bringing to the small screen what may still be the most chattered about society scandal of all time.
Five Centuries Of Gilded Finery Goes On Display At London’s Guildhall Art Gallery
Of all of the ways in which King Charles III’s Coronation broke with tradition, perhaps the most notable – at least for the Vogue editors frantically covering it in real time – was the newly anointed monarch’s decision to credit the designers and craftspeople involved in bringing the spectacle to life. In lieu of the usual email-based detective work required to figure out what, exactly, the Princess of Wales was wearing at Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace released nine pages of credits for the outfits alone – name-checking Alexander McQueen’s Sarah Burton alongside John Meyer, the 19th-century tailor who lined the Imperial Mantle with its gold bullion fringe for George IV back in 1821.
For those intrigued by the latter, this month, the work of Meyer’s cohorts goes on display at the Guildhall Art Gallery as part of Treasures of Gold and Silver Wire, an exhibition opening to coincide with the 400th anniversary of The Worshipful Company of Gold and Silver Wyre Drawers.

Bigger is definitely better

Why are the arts so undervalued?
The writer and actor strikes in Hollywood have exposed our fundamental misunderstanding of the importance of creativity in society. Here’s why we need to rethink our position
It was the longest to ever affect Hollywood but, after 146 days, the Writers Guild of America strike action is now over. While the specifics of the deal reached between the unions and the studios have not been made public, it is believed that many of the demands – including fair pay, minim staffing numbers and protection against AI – have been met. The actors strike, however, which developed soon after the writers’, is still ongoing.

How the Writers Deal Got Done: Inside the Room
From the Chris Keyser-CEO calls that brought them back to the table to the ask that almost derailed the deal, a play-by-play of the final negotiations.
On Saturday, Sept. 23, Disney CEO Bob Iger was in Beverly Hills, seemingly living his best life. He was at dinner with Paul McCartney and Eagles alum Joe Walsh at La Dolce Vita, an Old World Italian restaurant with long white tablecloths and dark red leather booths. Some people were discreetly snapping photos, as was to be expected with a Beatle in the house.
25 Best Books by Native American Authors to Add to Your Bookshelf
Right this way for the greatest contemporary literature from Indigenous Americans.
Just like every culture there is, Indigenous American authors aren’t a monolith and neither are they the books they write. Even the appropriate language we use to describe them can differ depending on who we’re talking about and their preference. While many of us in the United States refer to Native people as Native American, the National Museum of the American Indian advises us to use the individual tribal name, when possible. Native American is the most common term (and as such, is the one we use here), but many Native people prefer the terms American Indian or Indigenous American. Language is ever-evolving, so when in doubt, ask which term someone uses for themselves.
Inside the very strange, very expensive race to “de-age”
“Young blood,” starvation, fruit-only diets: How the rich are striving to “age in reverse”
Rich tech entrepreneurs are by all accounts a hyper-competitive bunch.
Whether it’s taking a shuttle to the edge of space, buying the biggest yacht, or challenging one another to a cage fight, with great wealth and power seems to come a voracious desire to engage in games of one-upmanship.
The Rejuvenation Olympics, an online leaderboard launched by tech millionaire Bryan Johnson earlier this year, takes the rivalry of the rich to the next level. The game? “Reversing” your age.
Participants compete not on physical abilities but on how quickly and by how much they can slow their “biological age.”
Gérard Depardieu’s Art Collection Sells for $4.2 Million at Paris Auction
Over 230 pieces went under the hammer, including sculptures by Rodin. The French actor — now dogged by allegations of sexual misconduct — once played the artist in a movie.
The near-entirety of an art collection belonging to Gérard Depardieu, the prolific French actor whose career was clouded in recent years by accusations of sexual assault and harassment, was sold at a two-day Paris auction this week that brought in 4 million euros, including fees, or about $4.2 million.
Over 230 items went under the hammer on Tuesday and Wednesday at a sale organized at the Hôtel Drouot by the Ader auction house, including paintings by Alexander Calder and sculptures by Auguste Rodin, whom Depardieu played in the 1988 movie “Camille Claudel.”

“Thirst trap,” “chef’s kiss,” “‘grammable” and “beast mode” are just some of the new words that have now received the official stamp of approval from Merriam-Webster.
The renowned dictionary announced in a news release Wednesday that it has added 690 words and definitions — nearly twice the number of new entries from last year.
“We’re very excited by this new batch of words,” Peter Sokolowski, Merriam-Webster’s editor at large, said in the release. “We hope there is as much insight and satisfaction in reading them as we got from defining them.”

28 of Our Best Butternut Squash Recipes to Make This Fall
Our favorite autumn vegetable stars in soups, pasta, sides, salads, and desserts—and we love them all!
Thanks to its smooth, easy-to-peel surface and rich, sweet flavor, butternut squash has become the MVP of the gourd world. Like its relations—other winter squash such as acorn and kabocha—butternuts are at their best from early fall through winter. The big difference is that butternut squash are larger than most other winter squash, ranging in size from 6 to 12 inches long, and in weight from about 2 to 5 pounds. They have a hard, light-tan rind and golden orange flesh.
How to Dye Fabrics—It’s Easy With Our Tips, Tricks, and How-Tos
Dying fabric is easier than you think. Here’s everything you need to know to get the colors you want.
We all have a garment or item that we love everything about—except for its color. Maybe your pink era is over, or you’ve come across the perfect item at the flea market, but that yellow just won’t do. Fret not, there’s hope! Dyeing fabric is a great way to bring that “pretty good” item one step closer to perfect.
Dyeing is as much an art as a science, so don’t hesitate to experiment. For example, we like combining liquid dyes to come up with custom colors. You can also try submerging different sections for varying amounts of time for a watercolor or ombre look.
