The trailer for Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning Part One has dropped and here is where we must sheepishly admit something. We may just plant our asses in a theater for this one. Consider all of the insane stunts, international locales, and explodey things and then allow us to explain:

Look, Tom Cruise may have some problematic beliefs and a questionable personal life, but there’s just no denying that the guy has honed himself to be the gold-medal version of the quintessential action hero. Time, age and personal setbacks have done nothing to slow him down. If anything, the closer he gets to confronting his own mortality, the more outrageous the action and stunts tend to get. Director Christopher MacQuarrie rarely fails to deliver on these things and at this point, there’s just something comforting about watching our American James Bond perform competence porn. Like the Bond franchise, the MI one has a history of adding interesting, charismatic and beautiful women to the story; unlike Bond, they’re not treated as disposable. For us, while it’s always fun to watch 60-year-old Tom Cruise abuse his body for our entertainment, we’re really into it for the locations and the chance to watch Rebecca Ferguson, Vanessa Kirby and now Hayley Atwell and Pom Klementieff tear it the fuck up alongside him. It’s fabulous comfort food.

In MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – DEAD RECKONING PART ONE, Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his IMF team embark on their most dangerous mission yet: To track down a terrifying new weapon that threatens all of humanity before it falls into the wrong hands. With control of the future and the fate of the world at stake, and dark forces from Ethan’s past closing in, a deadly race around the globe begins. Confronted by a mysterious, all-powerful enemy, Ethan is forced to consider that nothing can matter more than his mission – not even the lives of those he cares about most.
