2023 Cannes Film Festival: Thuso Mbedu in Elie Saab Couture at the Closing Ceremony

Let’s have one last round of gowns, shall we? The 2023 Cannes Film Festival held its closing ceremony over the weekend and the ladies delivered on the gown front. Sitting high on our list of faves is this gorgeous look by Elie Saab, worked to perfection by The Woman King star Thuso Mbedu:

Of course it’s glamorous and fabulous and fierce and all of those other gay blogger terms, but what we like most about it is that it’s just plain pretty. Maybe “plain” isn’t the right word to use here, given all of the beading and embellishments, but despite all of the foofaraw in this design, it strikes us pretty in a very straightforward way. In truth, we’re probably just happy that there are no marabou feathers on this thing. The floral details at the hem and neckline are a much more interesting take and we love the subtlety of the ombre effect. Granted, this is a lot of words to say “Look at this pretty dress,” but we tend to be wordy about such things.
