The Marvel promotional machine revs up its engines once again as select cast members of the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 hit a bunch of fan events in Seoul along with the film’s director James Gunn, who never shies away from a camera himself. One of the things we love about these big-budget franchise events in Seoul is how much the stars tend to ramp up their fashion, knowing that the fandom demands to be dazzled by them.
POPUP EVENT
We’ll give Chris some minor kudos for the tone-on-tone attempt and the slight move away from his typical megachurch pastor style. The Bitter Kittens know how much we tend to dislike cutouts, but we’ve gotta say, they’re perfectly deployed on Karen’s dress. It’s a fun, sexy, really eye-catching look, although we don’t think the boots necessarily go with it all that well. Pom’s look is FANTASTIC. It’s so refreshing to see a star in something this modern and youthful for a promo event. We wouldn’t recommend those pants for everyone, but she’s pulling them off easily.
PHOTOCALL
Not that it’s a competition, but once again, Pom wins – and once again, it’s a look with a high difficulty setting. Anyone with an eye or interest in such things could clock this as a Thom Browne design immediately, and while we can’t say we’re coming around on the cropped shirt/tie combo, we think she’s perfectly suited for this style and she’s doing it justice like a talented model would. Karen’s dress is hot. We don’t love the enormous buckles but this is a setting that calls for exaggerated fashion. As for him, like we said: megachurch pastor. You will never not see it from now on.
FAN SCREENING
Here is where the gowns went cray. We love Pom’s but we think it might have been better for her in another color. That green is gorgeous, but it’s tough to pull off in a high-flash photo-taking setting. She’s really well styled for it. We give Karen credit for wearing something so odd and yet still within the sexy/formal mode for a red carpet. We can’t say we like it all that much, though. We’d be more convinced if the skirt didn’t have that weird edge and if the top was a proper bodice. Pastor Chris is whatever.
