ABBOTT ELEMENTARY Star Taraji P. Henson in Marc Jacobs at THE VIEW

When we first heard that Taraji P. Henson was going to be doing a guest starring run as Quinta Brunson’s mother on Abbott Elementary, we were delighted. She’s always been a great comic actress and it was easy to see how her energy would clash hilariously with her onscreen daughter’s famous deadpan, an assumption that was born out by the preview of her first scene in next week’s episode. With the spotlight on her and a promotional opportunity ahead of her, she’s using the occasion to make the rounds she can discuss the work of her charity, the Boris Lawrence Henson Foundation and their initiative to provide wellness pods and mental health services to HBCUs. Because she’s the star she is, she’s also been serving looks, and by that we mean you should really – and we reiterate: REALLY – prepare yourself for the scrolldown.

Take a moment for yourself. We’ll wait.

We know it’s a LOT, but you should be made aware that she just wore this to walk outside and pose for the cameras. Her actual onscreen outfit was cute:

We have to see this for what it actually is: a total ploy for press attention. We don’t say that in a judgmental way. That’s a big part of her job and since she’s promoting a really good and important cause on top of it, we can only applaud the flex. To be clear: we think this is fairly hideous and she’d have looked terrible sitting down for a chat wearing it. We wouldn’t have excused it for a red carpet appearance either. But this is purely for the promenade to the limo and she got a ton of press for it. This is drag; shocking, challenging, attention-seeking drag. Go, girl. Give us hideousness.
