For years now, we’ve been saying that we enjoy all of the various ways womenswear designers have been reimagining the tuxedo, but we always figured the day would come when it was clear that all ideas of reinvention had been exhausted. Thanks to Jenna Ortega at the Scream VI premiere, we believe that day may have come.
Oh honey, no. While we think it’s styled really well and she looks gorgeous here, we cannot sign off on that design. Interestingly, we think everything above the waist works really well. It’s the whole bottom half that looks unresolved to us. It might have been more interesting as a gown, with both the jacket and the shirt extending to the floor. It also might have worked well as a top with a pair of pants. But that bottom half makes this look come off more literal than it should. In other words, it looks like she’s sloppily wearing a jacket and shirt instead of a dress using some of the same elements.
