We feel like we haven’t been giving Till star Danielle Deadwyler as much attention as some of the other prospective nominees, which we would have moved to rectify right about now in any case, but it almost feels like she stepped up her game considerably for the Critics Choice Awards. You’ve gotta be aggressive when an Oscar’s on the line, so regardless of whether we love the outfit choice, we salute her strategic boldness right at the moment she probably needed it. The almost good news is that we sort of love it.
Sort of. We feel like we don’t even need to ask if you can guess which part of the dress doesn’t work for us. It’s those wide double slits of course. One might have been fine, but two makes it look like you have a sequined tongue hanging down instead of a skirt. It’s a shame, because the bodice is gorgeous. We don’t always love really thick straps, especially if they’re chains or braided, but she’s really working the hell out of these. The necklace is really well-chosen.
