It has been a bountiful week in the world of red carpetry. We thank the content goddesses for these blessings, but sometimes, our folders get a little backed up with lewks and we need to clean them out in one go. Let’s judge all the looks that didn’t rate a second look this week, shall we? Actually, that’s not fair. Some of these are pretty great. Others… not so much.
Carey Mulligan in Schiaparelli Couture
It’s really interesting and it could be dramatically gorgeous, but we think the styling has to meet the level of the design. She needs jewelry and some serious zhuzhing.
Finn Wolfhard in Daniel w. Fletcher
It’s a great suit, but we’re never gonna love that split-hem effect and judging by the zipper situation, the fit’s a little off.
Joe Manganiello and Sofia Vergara
They look like a really hot, kind of uninteresting couple. Basic, if you will.
Kim Cattrall in David Koma
We don’t think she’s all that happy with this dress and we don’t blame her. There’s just nothing there. Even Jennifer Aniston would find this too dull to wear.
Lashana Lynch in Roksanda
Ooof. We’re reaching our limit on turtlenecks lately. This could be interesting, but the proportions are weird.
Laura Dern
It’s not the most exciting look in the world but she looks cute.
Marion Cotillard in Chanel
Love the jacket, hate the pants.
Robert Downey Jr.
Still working those wedge-heeled kicks, it seems. The suit’s nice enough.
Ryan Reynolds
While we appreciate the spiffy cut, we don’t think it’s the best cut or style for him. It makes him look thicker than he is. It’s all nicely styled, but we think you need to be Chalamet-shaped to pull this cut of suit off.
Sheila Atim in Emilia Wickstead
That’s a stunning dress on her. We don’t love the sandals and we think she could’ve gone bolder with the jewelry but it’s a striking look.
Taylor Russell in Loewe
We’re inclined to dislike a lot about this dress, but we can’t deny that she looks amazing in it.
Vanessa Kirby in Alexander McQueen
It just feels busy and over-designed to us; like there’s not enough of a payoff for all the fuss of having to wear it.
Viola Davis
It’s giving Michelle Obama and it works for her.
Will Ferrell
On the one hand, he put the effort in and showed up in a distinct and well-styled outfit. On the other hand, this looks more suited for your average 90-year-old.
Yvonne Strahovski in Michael Kors Collection
It’s perhaps a little too close to a Catwoman costume for us, but she does look pretty amazing in it.
