We try to make each of our “IN or OUT” posts a little thought experiment for y’all, but this one presents a nearly perfect storm of elements to make this one discussable. That may comes as a surprise, given how… perhaps unexciting this particular look is:

But that’s at least part of the point here. See, we’ve been saying for a little while that Kaitlyn Dever’s red carpet style doesn’t serve her particularly well because she has a tendency to opt for somewhat generic, low-key look. We think the could have a lot of fun with her fashion but for the most part, she chooses not to. This dress might compel us to reiterate our stance, since it’s not a style or color that sets us on fire with excitement, but she’s promoting a period comedy based on Romeo and Juliet, which makes a simple, old-school, romantic sort of dress like this somewhat on point. There’s also the fact that we haven’t been able to source the designer of this dress yet, which means no one can have any biases while voting on it. If it turned out to be, say Stella McCartney, we think that would tend to influence the responses. Anyway, we don’t hate this but we don’t love it, either. It’s just sort of there. We guess the question posed to you is whether it’s appropriate for the occasion and she looks good in it. In other words…
