Glass Onion star Janelle Monae stepped out to the Outfest Legacy Awards Gala for a little queer love and recognition. She butched herself up a little for the occasion.
We tend to think a look like this is more about the overall vibe rather than the particulars. She looks pretty great, but except for maybe the clutch, we can’t point to one item that stands out for being interesting or chic. That’s not really a criticism. This is a pretty low-key event and we can’t claim she looks bad or that the ensemble comes off half-assed. But we think the extent to which this outfit works at all comes down to its wearer. She’s got the elan to make it seem special, but it would probably look kind of generic on someone else.
