Gold on 27 Bar – Burj Al Arab, Dubai
According to a marginally more successful writer than us, all that glistens may not necessarily be gold. Given that today’s LOunge is in Dubai, we wouldn’t bet on it, though. We have no time for further talk (nor can we prepare our usual Buffet of Distractions for you) because we’ve got a full day (and more) of Met Gala coverage to get to. Since the dress code for the evening was “Gilded Glamour,” we figured today’s LOunge couldn’t be more appropriate. The world got scarier and meaner yesterday, so please use us as your respite from it all. We’ll be serving you eye-popping fantasy for the rest of the week. Here are a couple of things we tweeted out last night regarding common misconceptions about the Met Gala dress code:
Since I’m already seeing tweets to this effect, no, the Met Gala theme isn’t “America” or “Americana.” The exhibit tied to the event is titled “In America: An Anthology of Fashion” and the dress code is “Gilded Age Glamour.”

What we’d like to see from the #MetGala red carpet tonight is not literal Gilded Age glamour, but something that rises to the level of it. OPULENCE, in other words. Costumes aren’t required but we wouldn’t mind seeing a bustle, top hat or tiara now and then https://t.co/QHsnVc6Rwr
