We love our cartoon celebrities, yes we do.
They’re just so… refreshingly uncomplicated, you know? Total attention-seekers who dress like comic book super-villains, sure – but that’s not exactly a hard-to-parse cultural figure these days, now is it? They know what the job is and they do it, as hard as they can. We can’t help but respect that in a way. They’re delivering celebrity in the old-school sense; the idea that their public personae are as much a part of their job as any work they produce. We can’t get mad at what either of them are wearing. They’re as coordinated as a royal couple, in looks that don’t exactly push any fashion envelopes, but it works on that cartoon level. They’re painting a picture of themselves and it’s extremely clear in its rendering and intent. Having said that, we don’t love the textile of his suit – it’s too “dollar store Valentine’s card” – and we hate the matching shirt.
