The buzz surrounding The Northman is that Miss Nicole gives a truly jaw-dropping and insane performance that will make people reconsider just what she’s capable of. Considering her career trajectory in the last five years has been a steadily elevating straight line of acclaim and nominations, we figure she must really tear up the screen in this one. Can’t wait to see her in it. As for this dress, well… that’s where you come in.

It seems to us that a film like this one calls for slightly off-kilter style choices when it comes to the promotional tour. Her co-star Anya Taylor-Joy leaned into her “stepped out of 16th Century portraiture” looks for the premiere, but Nicole is going for something a little wilder. That feels right to us, but we just don’t know what to make of this gown. Prada calls it a “bronze metallic mesh” but it looks like an old yellow sweater to us. The feather detail is strange, but we don’t think it would bother us nearly as much if they were any color other than peach. We appreciate how unexpected the design is, but the details don’t really seem to suit her all that well – especially the color story. But we like when someone takes risks on the red carpet and we’re impressed that she can still surprise us with her choices. We just need you to tell us if this risk paid off or not.
