Darlings, it’s the Gem Awards Gala! This is how we know that things have returned to normal. Awards season is full of these little side events, but we haven’t covered any since the Before Times. Anyway, what does one wear to the Gem Awards Gala? Why gems, of course! Blake Lively’s covered in them and in order to give them the proper backdrop, she helpfully wore a tacky, but subdued dress:
To be fair, its not that bad a dress when you look at the runway photo. On the other hand, if it only works for a model walking in a straight line for 90 seconds, can it really be called a good dress? Our main problem here is the mismatch in textiles. The top half comes off a little cheap. We also don’t think the design works particularly well with such a large cutout. The runway version seems a little more restrained, but that could be due to a difference in fit. On any other night, at any other event, we would consider the earrings to be a little gaudy and the boob gem to be a little hilarious, but let’s face it: If you can’t come dripping in gems for the Gem Award Gala, when can you? It’s the one part of the look we unreservedly love.
