Scarlett Johansson in Markarian at the “Sing 2” Los Angeles Premiere

Scarlett Johansson has what we would consider an extremely spotty red carpet record and we’re not entirely sure why that is. We think she tends toward slightly bolder choices than the average star, but her tastes seem to run all over the map and we don’t think there’s ever been a consistent through-line to her style. She’s sort of like Halle Berry that way; fashion appears to be something she likes to play with and something she likes to exert control over, but she doesn’t seem to have a consistent vision of what her own style is. It comes across very whim or mood-based, which is absolutely a perfectly appropriate way to approach style: wear what suits your whims or moods as you have them. It’s trickier when that style is promotional and professional in nature. Anyway, we like this:

It’s like a fun, bright, warm weather holiday dress; full of texture and color, but unfussy to the point of being basic in its design. You can tell she’s loving it. The earrings are well-chosen, but the belt is a bit wrong for it, even if it does coordinate with the sandals, which are pretty fun.
