Prince William and Duchess Kate hosted the Earthshot Prize ceremony, the culmination of his work launching the Earthshot initiative with David Attenborough, in order to promote solutions to climate change. Because neither of them are stupid people or new to this job, they did not procure expensive new outfits for the occasion. Instead, they wore expensive old outfits.
She wore her gown to a BAFTAS event in 2011, although we don’t seem to have covered it at the time (EDIT: We did!). It’s pretty and classic and she could break it out in another ten years and it would still look this stylish. The color’s a big dreary, though. Of course his highly uncharacteristic green velvet jacket is the big fashion story here, given how incredibly dull and generic his menswear choices have always been. But even this is a re-wear. He wore it to a Centrepoint charity gala in 2019. We appreciate the black turtleneck for being such an un-princely sort of choice, but it doesn’t seem to photograph as a rich or dark enough black; neither do the pants. The jacket and shoes are great, but the other two pieces don’t feel up to the task.
