The Duke and Duchess of Sussex continued their New York tour with an on-stage appearance and appeal for vaccination equality at the Global Citizen Live concert over the weekend. Meghan surprised us with her style choice for the occasion, by switching out the heavy coats she’d worn earlier for a cute little beaded mini dress. We get it, girl. We can’t ever tell how to dress this time of year either, what with the weather careening from July to November every other day.

It’s a really cute dress. It doesn’t quite feel like late September to us, but that’s more about the shape and style than the color. This always comes up at least once this time of year, so let’s do it again: There is no real “no white after Labor Day” rule any more. It has as much relevance to the current world as the rule maintaining that a lady should always leave the house in gloves and a hat. It’s a vestige from another time and social sphere and for whatever reason, it became the only fashion rule that almost everyone can quote, possibly because it speaks of an almost comically quaint sense of propriety and self-importance.

Anyway, yes: pretty little frock. A bit too high summer/”wedding on a beach” for the venue, but we’re just happy to see her in something a little fun and whimsical for a change. He’s dressed like her handler, as per the usual. As much as we’d love to see good ol’ Harry learn to become a little more stylish, he knows better than we do that he would be absolutely crucified for it. Could you imagine if he wore some $3,000 Thom Browne or Gucci suit? We’d love it, but the British press would claim he was trying to kill the Queen or something.
