Kika Vargas is a Colombian womenswear designer who studied fine art at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and fashion design at Milan’s Instituto Marangoni. In 2008, she started her time as a designer at Missoni but left to start her own brand in 2011. She was awarded the Lapiz de Acero Award for Best Colombian Designer in 2013 and 2014 as well as the 2015 Infashion Award for Best Colombian Designer. She works in New York, Madrid & Bogotá and has said that her main style inspiration comes from her childhood, fascinated by watching her mother get dressed up. She likes to play with silhouette, proportion and volume, with old-school feminine details like small-scale florals and scalloped edges, lace and ruffles. Her color choices are soft but bold and the overall aesthetic feels like a modern take on some very traditional styles and elements.
