Colman Domingo has been hitting the promo fashion hard lately and we’ve all been loving his bold and boundary-pushing takes on menswear, but we’re going to have to warn you of two things. First, this look is going to challenge you. Second, believe it or not, with some minor quibbles…
We fully support this. Yes, really.
We’ll start with the quibbles: We don’t love the shape of the pants and we think the slides should be in black leather rather than brown suede. Yes, really.
Look, the point – if it can be said that an outfit has a point – is to be challenging; to juxtapose shapes, colors and textures that don’t intuitively pair well. It’s a super-editorial way to go, which makes it tough to pull off on a red carpet. But there’s a certain sort of relaxed, fabulous sexiness to this whole look. It feels playful in a way that menswear so rarely gets to be. No, we would not recommend you try this look yourself. This is all pure Colman Domingo. But we do think this feels like that predicted trend for loungey, sexy-slouchy post-pandemic looks finally playing out.
