We have more Main Event Oscars fashion to get to today, but we had to take a moment and salute this queer-ass dress.

It was high time someone picked up the gauntlet Björk threw down lo these two decades gone. There’s not much chance anyone currently reading this doesn’t get the reference, but in case this post is discovered trapped in an iceberg by archaeologists or aliens thousands of years from now, we’re referring to the iconic swan dress the Icelandic pop star wore to the 2001 Oscars. If there was anyone more suited to revive this avian frock Oscars tradition than Cynthia Erivo, we don’t know who it could be. And if there was a more ridiculous dress at or around this year’s Oscar celebrations, we haven’t seen it:

We LOVE it. If you can’t be loudly ridiculous at Elton John’s Oscar party, then what are you doing there? Personally, we’d have loved it if the styling had been just a little more drag-inspired, but she’s pretty closely wedded to her look, so we can understand why it wasn’t a reasonable expectation in this case. Either way, it’s fun and fabulous, if perhaps not the most practical garment in the world. That pretty much describes everything Elton wore for three decades, so she couldn’t be more on point.
