Marsai Martin never misses a chance to go all Fashion Girl, so while the following look might not seem particularly notable in that regard, it’s still really, really cute on her:

File this as yet another entry under “Would Never Survive a Limo Ride.” Even so, it’s fun and chic and whimsical all at once. We have this thing about teenage starlets getting too haute couture in their style choices a little too early; not because teenage starlets can’t love fashion or don’t tend to want to try the grownup looks as soon as possible, but because high fashion tends to have such a seriousness and sense of maturity about it that girls under 18 often look more like they’re playing dressup than actually expressing their true selves through style. This is one of those designs that straddles that line nicely. It’s chic, elegant and restrained, but it’s also got a sense of lightness to it. Feathers tend to do that.
We did not expect platforms to come back so hard and so quickly, but they make a nice change of pace after five straight years of naked shoes. We keep trying to picture a pop-of-color shoe and it really doesn’t work. Black was the way to go.
