Our observations earlier about Anne Hathaway being Hollywood’s Number One Fashion Girl had us missing the days of celebrity promotional tours. But we’re also missing out on seeing those stars who are perhaps less likely to be gleeful about fashion work nonetheless putting out a string of high-impact looks because they’re riding awards-track buzz. Think of Renee Zellweger,  who was suddenly everywhere around this time last year.

We don’t know Viola Davis so we can only offer surface observations, but we tend to see her as one of those stars who’s all about the work and far less about the promo work. It’s notable when she steps out looking this stunning:

Not because she’s bad at fashion or because she doesn’t like it; just because we think it’s clear that it’s not her focus. But she’s an utter professional, so when the time calls for it, she comes out in these sorts of high-impact looks that seem to be perfectly suited to her. It all feels very considered and smart. Love the color, the hair, love the shoes. The fit is off in the bust, but we’re surprised to see how much we like the relative fuss of the design. She looks great.
