Kittens, it has been an ENTIRE MONTH since we did a red carpet post around here (and of course over three months since we featured any new red carpet looks). It’s long past time to rectify that. We can’t do anything about serving you new material (although we are BEGGING the celebrity industrial complex to figure out SOME WAY to photograph a star in a gown and some borrowed jewels in These Uncertain Times), but at least we can mix things up a little by throwing some old lewks at you and asking you to rate them. In a different timeline, Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande would be making multiple media appearances and probably dancing on more than a few PRIDE floats in celebration of their collaborative bop, Rain On Me, which all the queers would be dancing in the streets to right now if they could.
But since all of that isn’t going to be happening, the very least we could do is pretend they both walked out this week in the following outfits.

It’s edgy, Rocker Chick Ariana! This all feels very dated, but since it was six years ago, that doesn’t feel like a very fair critique. Taken on its own merits, it’s not a bad look. The thigh-highs are extremely on brand for her even now. Like so much Moschino, the dress feels a little witty in its references but also just a bit too much for one tiny person to handle. We like this look, but we don’t love it.

We wanted to pick a Gaga look from roughly the same period because – unlike Ariana’s rigid consistency – Steffi changes her aesthetic from month to month or year to year. This was from that period where we constantly ragged on her for getting the details of a look wrong. The polished top half of this look feels like it has nothing whatsoever to do with the raggedy-ass bottom half. We suspect that was the point, but we’re not convinced it really works for a red carpet setting.
