The Willaston Bar, Cape Town, South Africa
Another airy and bright space! At a time when we’re all craving such things more than ever! Oh, kittens. Have a seat. Have several seats. Take in the view, have a cocktail or two, and get your batteries charged before tackling the next item on your never-ending list.
Today is TUESDAY, by the way. Please make a note of it.
We have a full day ahead of us, with a bunch of posts in the pipeline and a smattering of side projects to tend to. We’re hoping to get out this afternoon for a much-needed walk, although that will depend on what we see when we look out the window, since the streets surrounding T Lo Manor can get awfully crowded at certain times of the day. We can no longer rely on predicting when the dog-walkers will be out. Since everyone’s schedules are so weird and fluid at the moment, it seems most dog owners are taking their babies out whenever the mood strikes them. All those pups are gonna have a rough time readjusting to a regular schedule again. Then again, aren’t we all?

Dancing in the Street: Elaine Welteroth Got Married on Her Brooklyn Stoop, Then Threw a Virtual Block Party
“I woke up one morning with this whole vision of how we could do it—and the excitement of planning began,” Elaine says. “In my mind, I saw the faces of people we love from afar surrounding us on iPhone screens and a small group of our local friends in white lining the sidewalk with gloves and masks on. I envisioned transforming our stoop into an altar glowing with pretty lighting and gorgeous florals. I had no idea if any of this was even possible in the middle of a pandemic, but I was excited about having a new wedding vision to work towards.”
It’s Scientifically Proven That Flowers Make You Feel Better
In 2005, Professor Jeannette Haviland-Jones sent out three different types of packages—a candle, a fruit basket, or a floral bouquet—to 147 different women. It was a thank you gift, she said, a ruse that seemed plausible enough. The recipients had all participated in one of her recent psychological studies. But they weren’t actually gifts; they were variables. And the delivery men carrying them weren’t couriers, they were observers, measuring each recipient’s facial expressions. Afterwards, studying the results in her lab, Haviland-Jones discovered something that, she recalls, shocked her.
Keep White Sneakers Looking Brand New With These Tips
Keeping them fresh is easier than you think.
While beat-up sneakers had their moment (somewhere around the same time as side-swept bangs), white sneakers are arguably the “freshest” look when it comes to sneaker styling. However, nobody said being fly was easy. White sneakers definitely require some responsibility since they look their best when kept pristinely clean. Intimidated? Don’t be. The name of this game is maintenance.
Cate Blanchett and Sarah Paulson Are Going Live With W Magazine
On Tuesday, 5/19, at 4 p.m. EST, Paulson and Blanchett will reunite on a slightly smaller screen. The pair will go live on W’s Instagram, @wmag, to discuss their friendship, the show [Mrs. America], and more. “Ask and ye shall receive,” Paulson wrote in a tweet sharing the news. “Me, The Goon, chatting with Cate The Great.” The actresses will also dig into the dynamic between their characters, which should be particularly illuminating in Paulson’s case.
