Lorenzo, casting about for some content during this fallow post-Oscars period: So… Anya Taylor-Joy just popped up on the wires. She’s got a new movie out. Take a look and let me know if you want to.
Tom, seconds later: JESUS CHRIST, YOU BURIED THE LEDE, SWEETIE.
Miss Girl did not come quietly – nor did she come in the expected “My Jane Austen movie is about to open” prestige formalwear. It’s a bold move which, given the release date and how far away it is from next year’s awards season, may just make perfect sense for her. She wants to make a splash and make a statement but she doesn’t want to be pinned down as the period-film princess. It’s so fun, and silly and head-turning at the same time – sort of like good drag – that we can’t do anything but love it. And her head styling is perfect, lending the look a high-fashion air and not lapsing into clownery. She actually looks amazing, crazy as this ensemble is.
