RED CARPET SHOWDOWN OF THE WEEK: Cate Blanchett vs Jennifer Lopez

Posted on December 06, 2019

Darlings, it’s been too long since we’ve had a good showdown ’round these parts. This week, two longstanding QUEENS of the red carpet stepped out in looks of feathers and frippery – both of which we had some quibbles with, each of which turned out to be one of our faves of the week.

T’s Pick: Jennifer Lopez in Ralph & Russo Couture at the 2019 IFP Gotham Awards

T’s Defense: Revisiting this, I think my issues with the shoes and hem length have subsided. What can I say? When J Lo really steps her drag up, I can’t help but be charmed and dazzled by it. She looks amazing – and she doesn’t look remotely generic or anything but completely on brand. Love a diva who knows when to deploy the full drag.

Lo’s Pick: Cate Blanchett in Armani Privé at The Fashion Awards 2019

Lo’s Defense:  I wasn’t sure about the color here and I questioned whether the style had enough oomph for our Cate, but as the week went on, I kept going back to look at it. There’s something ethereally pretty about it without getting too princess-y or elf-queen about it. It’s a fantasy gown with high-fashion sensibilities, which makes it absolutely perfect for her.

TWO ladies fairly exploding with frippery this week! But WHICH lady’s frippery is the more fabulous one?
