We’ve given spotlight posts to some of the more eye-popping lewks at the LACMA Gala, but then we realized it’s basically an event entirely turned over to eye-popping lewks, so we figured that was reason enough to shove them all together for quick and easy judgment. Efficiency, darlings! It’s the hallmark of quality blogging.
Shall we?
Alexandra Grant and Keanu Reeves
Keanu stepped out with his longtime friend and they’re acting all lovey, so of course the entertainment press went nuts over it. We’ll just say this: they look adorable – and refreshingly normal. Also: you can’t get Keanu to wear crazy fashion, not even at an event that’s all about it.
Amandla Stenberg
Love the hair and the shoes, but the dress just looks like a series of fancy bibs and smocks.
Billie Eilish
We don’t like the embellishments running down that pants and wish they were hemmed just a bit more, but this is her look and her philosophy of dressing, which we can respect.
Cynthia Erivo
Gorgeous. Personally, we think the neckline looks too low from a proportional perspective, but there’s enough dress surrounding it that it’s not much of an issue. We don’t love this color but it looks pretty great on her.
Jared Leto
Of course.
John Legend
It’s fine. He looks cute. But we feel like this is the same look he wears every time he gets dressed up. He would look great in a jacquard or brocade.
Naomi Campbell
Bow down to this ageless diva.
Regina King
Love the hair, but like Brie Larson’s gown, we feel like this one doesn’t really play to her strengths. It’s a bit fussy.
Salma Hayek
Okay, so maybe these looks collectively aren’t as eye-popping as we thought. Not that we have a problem with this. We’re not sure about the bouffant, but the gown looks pretty great on her.
Sienna Miller
It’s fine. Kind of a generic let-down.
Willem Dafoe
The cuffs are weird but he gets a pass.
Yara Shahidi
Stunning.
Zoe Saldana
So weird that we have to respect the choice a little. The colors are interesting together and we find that we actually don’t mind black lace with a moth motif, but the bodice gets uglier the longer we look at it. Keep that amazing skirt and switch out the top half for something that won’t fight with it.
