On her new HBO series, Watchmen (premiering Oct 20): “Sister waited until she was almost 50 to be a superhero. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do, you know, be a woman physically kicking ass.”

On not getting stuck in her comfort zone: “Sometimes we can get so caught up in the moment and we don’t ever leave that moment, and that’s how some people get stuck. I don’t know if you ever heard me say, ‘Comfort zones are where dreams go to die.’”

On the strength her mother gave her: “When that’s your beginning, you’re never really focused on the possibility. What my mother filled us with, what she gave us, it feels natural and so intuitive. The Secret was never a secret for me.”

On who represents ambition for her: “What is the best way I can summarize it? Beyoncé comes to mind, just because she’s a perfect example of dreaming out loud without living too loud.”
