This morning’s T Lo Coffee Chatter (it’s a thing) was all about the prospect of Jennifer Lopez on an Oscar campaign and what kind of fashion we can expect from her. It’s way too early for us to be imposing any sort of expectations on her, as she’s clearly thrilled with the buzz her performance is getting and she should just enjoy that for now, but we hope she doesn’t hew to a conservative, straight-and-narrow path. Girl, Cher continued wearing the cray straight up to the podium to collect her Oscar. Keep that in mind. Fortunately, it looks like you have no intention of tamping down on your essential J Lo-ness any time soon. If anything, these looks feel like a bit of return to form.

We are still super not-crazy about the trend for these mini-dresses with big-ass flounces on them, but we’ve gotta admit, Miss Woman is SLAYING the sidewalk in this number. From the shades to the coat to the pumps, everything works to set off that killer frock and frame it. This is Jenny at her most Barbie.

And then there’s that other side of Jenny which we also love: her occasional predilection for dressing like a super-villain. “Python Lady” is her number one go-to in this genre, but unforch, this getup looks like our evil queen only had time to put the top of her supervillain armor before launching into world domination. It’s a bit hard to terrify the masses when they can all see your slip hanging out, girl.

There’s also just too much going on here. From the mismatched shoes to the way the top and skirt fight for dominance. It doesn’t have the cool cohesiveness of that first outfit. It just looks a little snug and a bit busy. But hey, that’ll be half the fun of her Oscar poledance: documenting the lows as well as the highs. We’re rooting for you, J Lo!
