That’s right, kittens. We went there. We’re pitting these two fashion queens and gal pals against each other in a fashion throwdown for the ages. Or for the next few days at least. Both ladies offered up highly distinct and eye-catching looks that couldn’t have been more different in the details. This week, the big question of who won the red carpet is going to come down to whether you’re in the mood for shape or whether you’re in the mood for color.
Lo’s Pick: Janelle Monáe in Jean Paul Gaultier Couture at the 2018 Glamour Women of the Year Awards
Lo’s Defense: My queen is serving me SHAPE and DRAMA. That would be enough for me but she’s also managing to stick to a strict set of personal style restrictions she likes to impose on herself, mostly having to do with black-and-white combos plus hatwear of some sort. And if that wasn’t enough, she’s managing to play with shape and form in a head-turning way but still remaining somewhat conventionally stylish. It walks a line between conventional and edgy that she’s well suited to balance.
T’s Pick: Tessa Thompson in Prada at the “Creed II” New York Premiere
T’s Defense: Well, MY queen is serving me color and sparkle and fun, making it just about perfect for this time of year. Tessa’s got a real knack for working retro looks so it’s to her credit that she doesn’t stick her toe in the 1960s waters too much, lest it become a fall-back or a cliche. The result is that this looks incredibly fresh and of-the-moment. The colors look amazing on her, the style sings on her, and there’s just enough sexy and glam to make it perfectly fun for the red carpet.
There you have it, darlings! Hopefully, this is the toughest decision you’ve faced all week!
