And thus did the Great Toning-Down of 2018/19 commence. Because Miss Steffi’s got an Oscar nom in her sights and if there’s one thing this gal knows better than anything else, it’s how and when to switch up her image for the occasion. When she was chanteuse-ing with Tony Bennett or paying tribute to Julie Andrews, she knew how to switch up her drag for the occasion, tamping down on the art school stuff and playing up her diva side. But the very last thing any Oscar-minded actress wants to do during her campaigning is to come off like a diva. so behold: Gaga’s Serious Actress drag:
It’s pretty good drag.
We have always had issues with fashion that looked like foundation garments, not to mention dresses the color of old bras, so we won’t claim we’re a hundred percent in love with this. And as per the uzh with so much of Gaga’s drag, the execution isn’t exactly impeccable. That bust is way too tight on her and the beige pointy-toe pumps strike us as a completely wrong choice when all those silver sandals are sitting right there, waiting to make a slightly dull dress shine.
But as a piece of branding; as a way of saying that, like her character, she’s a real and raw talent that doesn’t need artifice (although the film was a bit muddy on that idea), this is a pretty great way to go. In other words, we like the idea even if we don’t much like the details in this case. And her face looks really pretty, although we don’t think we’ve ever seen her so tanned.
