TWO QUEENS STAND BEFORE YOU.

As far as we’re concerned, this as titanic as fashion showdowns can get. Each of these ladies sit at the very top of our ranking of greatest red carpet masters. In fact, we’d say they mostly spend their time vying for the top spot on our list, although Lupita sometimes gives them both a run for their money.

Lo’s Pick: Tilda Swinton in Schiaparelli Couture at the “Suspiria” L.A. Premiere

Lo’s Defense: I know we’ve dubbed her Pope Tilda, but right here, to me, she is a GODDESS of FASHION. And you have say that out loud in an all-caps voice to pay her the respect she deserves. She’s not only representing the true aesthetic  and history of the House of Schiaparelli, she’s also pushing the red carpet just a little more into the future, into a bolder, less restrictive way of thinking about fashion. She is the greatest of all time, as far as I’m concerned. Or she is this week, at least.

T’s Pick: Cate Blanchett in Maison Margiela at the Rome Film Fest “The House with a Clock in Its Walls” Screening

T’s Defense: For me, this represents a pretty definitive statement on Good Lady Cate’s approach to promotional style, which is both chic and eye-catching, but also workmanlike and extremely professional. She’s very old school in her thinking, consistently returning to the idea that the public expects to see her looking like a glamorous star on the red carpet and never failing to deliver her best efforts at giving them that. It’s very Joan Crawford, in the best sense of the comparison. This is, after all, for a screening of her kid’s movie, which has already premiered. And yet you’d think she was presenting Best Picture at the Oscars or co-hosting the Met Gala with Anna. Visually, it’s striking and Hollywood Glam, but it’s also interesting to look at and fairly unique as red carpet looks go. A perfect Cate jawn.

Stirring defenses OF two queens BY two queens! Which one stirred your loins the most, darlings?
