Kittens, two ladies in need of some good press and masterful image management stepped out onto the American Music Awards at the ready, their weapons locked and loaded. And what brand of firepower did these two someday-divas wield? FASHION, darlings. What other weapon is there?
Lo’s Defense: She’s a sharp, bold, stunning disco ball of confidence. I’m not her biggest fan in the world, but she had a really great week, shattering AMAs records AND voting registration records singlehandedly. It was the time for her to step out in something completely unapologetic. That it’s head to toe Balmain, formerly the favored brand of the Kardashian-West compound, was the bitchy little mean girl touch that may just make me fall in love with Tay.
T’s Defense: I wouldn’t call this the sort of personal and political statement Taylor was attempting, but it’s a fabulously colorful and luxurious look that really plays to Cardi’s strengths, both physically and personality-based. She needed to come out in something that said richness and royalty; something stately, with traditional undertones that’s also fun and culturally specific. There is no one who could have made this work except Cardi B and that’s the whole point.
Bold personal and political statements! Rich florals vs. stunning sparkle! TURBAN VS. THIGH-HIGH! It’s an epic battle and a tough-as-hell choice! We’re sure glad we’re not you!
