Miss Melissa is getting some awards-season buzz for this role, which means it’s time for the gal to step up her red carpet efforts and work to give off that sweet smell of critical success and impeccable prestige. Saddle up, lady. Oscars poledance is GO.
Here’s the thing, though: While her style has improved by leaps and bounds in the past couple of years, we’re not sure this sort of formal approach (which isn’t really her thing) is all that freshly executed. Except for the jacket, this is a pretty standard sort of floaty gown in a pastel-y color; the likes of which you’d see at plenty of weddings all over the place, all year round. It’s pretty enough, but it seems to dampen her natural exuberance quite a bit. And while the jacket is kind of sharp and lends the look some modernity, we don’t think it really goes all that well with the gown. It all might improve if the color scheme was more seasonally appropriate (i.e., darker and richer), but we really hope if she’s on the awards track, this isn’t a preview of what the next few months are going to look like. Bring your own personality to your Oscars poledance, Melissa. It’ll benefit you in the long run. Trying to be something you’re not never snags you a win. We’re just saying.
