ELLE’s 2018 Women in Hollywood Celebration Red Carpet Rundown

Posted on October 16, 2018

We’ve given the spotlight to some of the more notable attendees (Gaga, J Lo, Keira, Sarah Paulson, Charlize, Chloe Grace), but now it’s time to herd all the Women In Hollywood together for mass judgment – which makes today no different from any other one, we suppose. Oh, well. Onward!

Caitriona Balfe in Calvin Klein

Hmm. For such a simple look, there are a lot of distracting elements. The mismatched shoe design is bad enough, but the orange and red accessories keep pulling the eye in different directions. If the dress was more interesting, this might not be an issue.

Cole Sprouse in Calvin Klein

Is this the only outfit he owns? We’d swear we’ve seen him in this exact look a dozen times.

Debby Ryan in Chloé

GIRL NO.

Absolutely not. Whoever told you athletic socks with a dress and high-heeled sandals was a suitable look for the red carpet? That person hates you, Debby. Fire them.

Ellen Pompeo in Calvin Klein

We can’t help launching into the “9 to 5” theme song upon viewing this look. That’s a compliment. Could do without the shoes, though.

Holland Taylor

Colorful, stylish and comfy. Can’t argue with any of it.

Jameela Jamil

Even though they’re starting to get a little played out, we’ll consider practically any ladytux if it manages to be a little different. We love the length of the jacket and the flare of the pants.

Juliette Lewis

We adore you, Miss Juliette, but we cannot support public pajamas any longer.

Kate Beckinsale in Zuhair Murad Couture

She’s like some sort of red carpet superhero or something. It’s certainly dramatic – and she didn’t have to shave her legs, which we suppose makes it a win all around for her.

Laverne Cox in Maticevski

It’s okay. Hard to tell with the way she’s posing, but this looks a little home-sewn to us.

Mackenzie Foy in Erdem

A really pretty dress, but that is so not her color. Or put more accurately, it’s literally her color, in the sense that it matches her skin tone almost exactly.

Malin Akerman in Cushnie

Yuck. Terrible design in an ugly color.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead in Bella Freud (Suit) and Cushnie (Shirt)

A VELVET ladytux! This is new information! We like.

Mindy Kaling in Fendi

Everything’s great except for this highly distracting and unnecessary cuffs.

Ronan Farrow and Mia Farrow

She looks great and they’re both wearing fantastic shoes. He needs to get his pants hemmed and his phone out of his pocket.

Rosanna Arquette

Love the jumpsuit, but it really doesn’t work that well with a velvet blazer.

Vanessa Hudgens in Alberta Feretti

Oof, no. Sorry, girl. The color story is terrible, the dress is overdesigned, and those straps are awful.

Yara Shahidi in Calvin Klein

Cute and chic. The one look we can’t argue with here. Well done.
